In my family, we celebrate Yule by reflecting on the past year and setting intentions for the next. We write our intentions on magnolia leaves and burn them with the Yule log to send the energy out into the Universe. Then we have cake ... Because, yum.

Today, we classify this as the first day of summer. However, traditionally in many cultures this would be considered Midsummer (between now and the 24th-ish depending on which culture) and the start of summer was at the beginning of May.

☀️Midsummer was a fun and joyful celebration, and a time to honor the life-giving and life-sustaining heat and energy of the sun.

🎆Celebrations generally included bonfires, singing, dancing, good food, and drink.

The newest creation has me dreaming of sitting on the patio of a cottage in the French countryside... looking out at this view... sipping a delicious beverage (herbal iced tea? Red wine? Un café glacé? Even in my dreams I can’t decide....) enjoying the sun on my face, and experiencing the moment completely, with each of my senses.

..... It smells so good.....

Inspired by a dessert I've never eaten, but that was so beautiful it apparently needed a candle created for it.

I don't know why- the universe, intuition, creativity, whatever you want to call it- it just yells at me what to do sometimes, so I do it.

🌎HAPPY EARTH DAY🌎

✨While we should be doing all we can to love, honor, and protect our home every day, today we should take some time to CELEBRATE that which provides us with everything we need. ✨

🌳In honor of Mother Earth and her day, all candles are 15% off on the website today through Sunday. Plus I will be donating $1 per sale to planting new trees through carbonfund.org. Through their Earth Month Tree Planting Match, that means 2 trees planted per candle sold.🌲

Hey friends. I was scrolling around pinterest today and came across a no-waste hack video.

Always being ready to hear new ideas for lowering waste, I stopped to take a peek.

One of the tips was to melt down crayons and repour them around wicks to make candles.

While it sounds like a great idea (crayons are wax, candles are wax, and yes- it works) it's not actually as great as it sounds.

The most important reason being that crayons are made of paraffin wax. Paraffin wax omits known carcinogens such as benzene and toluene when burning. And you know how some candles let off black sooty smoke? Burning a candle made of crayon wax will make even more of that.

Definitely not something you want to be breathing in.

My suggestion is always to stick to soy or coconut wax candles with natural wicks.

A great way to recycle crayons is to head to TheCrayonInitiative.org and help them recycle old crayons into new crayons for kids in hospitals! You can even start a crayon collection in your school or community groups, and they have a ton of resources to help you get started! ♻️🖍️
