Woven into every step of the runway.

This past Sunday, we had the honor of seeing our rugs come to life beneath the incredible energy of the North Carolina Azalea Festival fashion show on Wrightsville Beach. Watching these pieces—each with their own history—become part of such a vibrant, moving experience was truly unforgettable.

Endless gratitude to the visionaries who made it all possible, especially Frank Potter-Gainey and Tracy Mullins, for bringing together such an incredible celebration of style, culture, and community.

The art of storytelling, woven thread by thread.

This hand-woven tapestry from Belgium draws inspiration from the rich European weaving traditions perfected in cities like Brussels and Bruges, where tapestry workshops flourished for centuries. Scenes like this—romantic figures gathered in a lush garden, music drifting through the air—were especially popular in historic European tapestries, reflecting themes of courtship, leisure, and the beauty of nature.

Every element is built slowly on the loom: layered foliage, delicate florals, classical statuary, and soft architectural landscapes in the distance. The muted palette and intricate shading mimic the look of old master paintings, but instead of brushstrokes, thousands of individual threads bring the image to life.

This exquisite pictorial rug draws its inspiration from Persian miniature painting, a celebrated art form that flourished during the Safavid era of Iran. Rather than depicting a single historic scene, the composition weaves together elements from Persian poetry and myth: a graceful, idealized figure suspended in a dreamlike landscape of swirling water, blooming florals, and symbolic animals.

Scenes like this were often adapted into pictorial rugs from Tabriz in the mid-20th century, when master weavers began translating manuscript-style paintings into finely knotted carpets. Every detail — from the flowing hair and layered textiles to the movement in the clouds and water — was carefully designed to read as a story rather than a pattern.

These rugs were never meant to disappear under furniture. They were created to be viewed, studied, and admired, much like a painting, offering a glimpse into Iran’s deep literary and artistic traditions.
