City Gypsy Family,
This announcement isn’t easy to make, but it’s about time I made it public: After five beautiful years, building a community, a family, a home, we learned that our lease will not be renewed as a new plan is in place for our space, and we respect and honor that. Change happens. Life rearranges itself. But what we’ve built here doesn’t fade with the space itself. City Gypsy was never just a shop, it’s a community. It’s been a home, a place to be seen, to be loved, to be completely yourself...you did not have to pretend. You were always welcomed exactly as you are.
TO MY ARTISTS, MY FAMILY: You are my heart. You trusted me with your work, your vulnerability, your stories. The closeness we have built, the trust, the talks, the laughter, the shared struggles, it has been one of the most beautiful parts of my life. I love you. I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart. Remember, I am not going anywhere. We will find ways to keep our little community connected. You will always be able to reach out to me if you need anything.
TO OUR CITY GYPSY CUSTOMERS: I have met so many of you from all over the world, and each of you left a mark. The conversations, the laughter, the emotional moments, the friendships, I truly cherish them all. Your support of City Gypsy never went unnoticed. For many of you, this was a safe space to breathe, to be authentically you without judgement. Even without a storefront, know this: if you ever need a safe person, I am still here. You can always reach out to me on social media.
I will miss being here deeply but we’re not done. Our Make Wilmington Weird events will continue. You will see us popping up around town, keeping this community alive however we can. With the economic uncertainty, I’m taking time to plan the next step, so just keep watching.
Thank you, truly, for being part of something rare. Thank you for loving this place. Thank you for letting it love you back. Thank you for every moment. Every laugh. Every tear. Every conversation. This is not goodbye. This is simply the turning of a page. Our last day will be Jan. 4th, so you still have time to come support us.
With genuine love and gratitude,
Catrina
