Light,Sawdust & Coffee Woodworking I'm just a guy that loves to make wood come alive in the 'corner of garage' workshop. Just making sawdust and beautiful projects is enough for me!

I turn out things that we need around the house or things that people ask me to do. I am by no means a professional but I think I am better than average in my abilities. I've been at it for quite a while, with the first project that I remember being an Adirondack chair that I built from plans in my dad's workshop. I have remodeled a couple homes over the years, with the 1882 Victorian in Forestvil

le, NY being the most extensive. There I did a total remodel on the kitchen, including a new cabinet and large island. My wife and I built a large 2 1/2 car garage with a 16 x 32 foot woodshop in the back. Now, down in Virginia, I am building up a small mobile shop in the corner of the garage. Yeah, sometimes I take over a bit more room than my wife would like, but it's just temporary. I am still employed full time and just putter around on nights and weekends so I can't really tackle really big projects, but that's ok.

Well, everything doesn’t always work out. I tried 4 times to make an inlay for a cutting board and each time something didn’t come out like it was intended.
First time on the board, the CNC missed some areas that were supposed to be removed. I flattened the board and tried again with a smaller bit and it came out pretty good. I saw a couple areas that wouldn’t be visible that the router didn’t get. I figured I could chip those out if the plug (inlay) wouldn’t fit good.
Next I put the block for the plug on the CNC. I misjudged the position and the top of the plug went off the edge. So, flip the board over and try again. The second time, the router lost track on where it was and started carving all out of wack.
That’s it! I give up! It was going to be a surprise gift but I’ve spent too many hours on this already. Maybe I’ll try again when I get a soundproof enclosure for the machine. It is really loud!
