Check out our new "high impact" products!

One of the ways the importance of a plant can be measured is for how many insects it serves as a larval host. Plants that shelter and feed an insect's larvae are larval hosts for that insect, but many insects will only use a few types of plants for this purpose. Therefore protection of the larval host plants become very important to the survival of that insect species.

Our "high impact" plants are larval hosts to a large number of butterfly and moth caterpillars. The National Wildlife Federation has an incredibly useful website on which it provides the number species use each plant as their larval hosts. Some of our highest impact shrubs like the Red Osier Dogwood or Prairie Rose each have as many as 102 insects that use them as a larval host! Below are the larval host numbers for some of our other "high impact" plants. The National Wildlife Federation's tool can be found at nwf.com/NativePlantFinder (http://www.nwf.com/NativePlantFinder/) .

Rebecca's Natives Special Deal on Mystery Blazing Star!

Our greenhouse blew over in a storm last Fall and many of our Blazing Stars lost their labels. Now we have lots of beautiful Blazing Star quart-sized plants, but we can't tell the type of each Blazing Star plant!!

We only sold three types of Blazing Star last year, so these are either Meadow Blazing Star (Liatris liguistylis), Prairie Blazing Star (Liatris pycnostachya), or Rough Blazing Star (Liatris aspera).

We are selling these quart-sized Blazing Stars for $4.50, which is half the normal price of a quart-sized plant!

Come see Rebecca’s Natives this Saturday at Native Plant Fest!

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church has invited Rebecca’s Natives to participate in their Native Plant Fest this Saturday and we couldn’t be more thrilled! It’s so exciting how native gardening is becoming so much more popular here in the Chicagoland area.

The Native Plant Fest will be held this Saturday, May 21 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church located at 1133 Pfingsten Rd, in Northbrook.

Twelve varieties of native plant seedlings are being lovingly prepared by church members to give away FREE to the community. They will come with instructional flyers for the plants showing the importance of native plants to birds, bees, butterflies and soil.

The event will include native plant experts and landscapers to answer your questions, as well as kids activities, food, and music.

Rebecca's Natives Ltd. will offer native plants for sale as well.
