This week’s project has been painting ceilings and trim in the dining room and living room. I covered dingy ceiling white and antique ivory trim with a bright white in satin finish to contrast the lemongrass green. The walls were already this lovely green and after seeing how it lightens and darkens in the natural light I decided to keep that color and just paint a couple fresh coats to brighten it up a bit. It also was the color I chose for the pantry shelving and it ties into that as well as a background color in a Wayne Thiebaud cake print that hangs in the kitchen. And the time lapse feature makes me feel like I’m actually making progress! Sooooo much beautiful trim work here 🤪

What’s behind door Door Number 2? It’s our little but mighty master closet. Rik surprised me with better closet rod placement and shelving in the smallish space that we share off our master bedroom. With the space being converted from a carriage house (the New England name for what us midwesterners call a “barn”), the angles and layout calls for creative use of space. Rik clad the wall in cedar boards and it covers the plumbing and wiring that previously was exposed in the shared bathroom wall. He installed a simple pull chain light fixture and finished off the ceiling attic access door with more cedar. My favorite part is the pine shelving that covers an extra door that leads out to my studio space. The door was redundant for how we now use the space but I wanted to leave it there in case we ever change our minds or floor plan. The cedar smells amazing as well!

Kitchen shelves are completed after finally finding just the right wood and brackets. Plaster walls make it a bit more difficult to hang things this great old house so we had to offset them a bit and the result is perfectly my style 😉 I’ll certainly enjoy playing around with the display. 💐 🌺

More project progress sharing from Maine. The pantry area off the main kitchen is a pass through to the front hallway and stairs. It was painted lime green when we moved in last year so I went completely white for now and will add a mural or pattern to the blank wall eventually. Rik removed the old uneven shelving and boxed in the area, covering the plaster wall. He made shelves specific to my size requests and made the countertop from acacia wood slab. I originally thought I’d leave all of it natural but decided to go with a SW Lemongrass paint to tie in the wall color from the dining room. Finley helped with the organization because that’s her jam. (We left a little note under the bottom shelf for the next renovation 😆)

One of my favorite shopping spots reopened this month for the season and I’ve been in there twice this week already. I found a signed blue whale woodcut and a sweet little green basket. Rik made this little Acacia wood butcher block table over the weekend with some extra stuff he had from other projects. I’ll post some pictures of where these end up as I work them into the projects around the house. Bean is helping 😉 🐶

Starting with the “after” picture and while it wasn’t a huge transformation it was a happy find and cleaned up nicely. I wish I moved this quickly on every project 😆 We found this reproduction (1940-50s?) federal style hutch at a local estate sale for $50 and it’s the perfect “bar” / adult drink storage for our dining room style. 🍷 🍸

I shared photos of Finley’s bedroom over the summer when we were repainting, installing flooring and removing bifold doors. In January Rik built a new bookshelf for her and her furniture is in place and some of her wall decor is hung. The pictures here show the “now” and the “before” shots are at the end. 🎀🩷🤍
