The first group of 2 hour workshop folks just wrapped up weaving their towels. It's a big ask of the brain to learn a new thing on a friday afternoon, and they did a great job!

We began with a short introduction to the looms, and then they dove right into weaving. They quickly got the feel for throwing a shuttle, playing with color, and managing the looms' peddles/cranks/and levers.

Hosting folks in the studio is such a joy, and I feel so privileged that this is my job!

These workshops are running the next three weekends. They're mostly filled, but there are a few spots left. If you're weaving-curious, I'd love to have you join us!

Current availability:
May 9th 3pm
May 16th 9 am
May 24th 9 am * This is the last time available for a group

The shop walls are still humming with the energy and laughter of last weekend's weaving class.

This was a three day intensive that focused on the basics of loom setup and weaving. Folks had little to no experience with looms, and by the end of day two, everyone was sitting at the loom, confidently weaving away.

May is class time in The Cultivated Thread Shop here in Wiscasset! This coming weekend, we kick off three weekends of 2 hour workshops that focus solely on weaving. In this class format, the looms are pre-dressed, and folks spend their time weaving a towel. Because textiles require some extra finishing work, folks don't immediately take their towel home. Instead, I wash and hem each towel and shop it back to its weaver.

If you enjoy textiles, come try out the process! Seats are available:
🧵 May 9th 3-5pm and
🧵 May 24th 9-11am
Register through our website, you know where to find it 😉

Winter so far.....

The holiday season is my busiest outwardly facing part of the year. Honestly, it's overwhelming and I am always looking for ways to bring balance to the whole of the calendar.

The beginning of this year has been a lovely mix in the TCT world and has included hosting a class field trip at the studio, working on two big orders for new customers in NYC (more on this soon!!!), tuning up internal systems, and preparing for the year ahead.

Usually, for the business' anniversary, I launch new colorways and offer a promo of some kind. This year, I am donating 15% of the Cultivated Thread's birthday month proceeds to . Rather than designing new colorways, I brought back ones that people have especially loved. They are listed in the online shop if you're curious.

I've been blown away by the interest in learning to weave and workshops are nearly full for 2026! I just upgraded my class registration system so I can spend less time on admin and more on the student experience. I can't wait to host over 50 new weavers in the studio in May!

I've also been filling my personal reservoir with woods walks, puzzles, and coffee in front of the woodstove. Saying hello to neighbors has never felt more important as I try to find my way through the cruelty I see happening in our collective community. Showing up as a compassionate human and a value driven business has always been a guiding light but these days I'm doubling down on my efforts.

Sending warmth and love to you from this snowy corner of Maine,
Hilary

Brightfield's third and fourth grade visited The Cultivated Thread Studio this week!

The students have woven pack baskets, so they had a great handle on what weaving is, and were really curious about the different tools used for fiber weaving.

They each got to weave a few passes on one of the studio looms, which was the highlight for many.

The swatch they made is getting finished today and will head to their classroom soon!

Hi Friends! I am raffling off a pair of Vilbrie towels. Here's how to enter:

Email me a screenshot of your donation to  or  or  to [email protected] by February 15th.

Each $15 donation will be a ticket to the drawing ($45 donation = 3 tickets).

The winner will be notified via email on Feb 16th. These towels can be shipped anywhere in the continental US.

I've been inspired by the actions of makers and small business owners to support our immigrant community and oppose ICE through generosity, creativity, and art. Stay safe, friends!
