Close up of some text from a 1698 land deed for some 64 acres in Dartmouth, Mass. Either there was a now extinct tree species, or spell check was not working. If you need a hint, the first word is Black. (That is a perfectly acceptable 17th century rendition of a legal script “c”) I love deciphering old English documents!

How many of you, if you saw this book in a consignment shop, would stop and investigate? Algae? Really?
This lovely work of eighteen 8”x10” pages was created in New London, CT in 1852 by Eliza M French for her friend (sister?) Emily, “as a token of Regard for her desire to Live Rightly”. Algae? Really! These are actual collected and pressed specimens, not prints or drawings.
