This is what feeling rich is like. I’m convinced of it.

Except my record keeping is not super stellar so I’m not exactly sure what this is. I think it’s an anemone but Google is trying to tell me it’s a poppy! I don’t think I planted poppies 🤷‍♀️

Thing I can cross off my beginner farmer list:

Loading and unloading a truck of compost by myself! 💪

Why is adding compost important?

-helps soil retain moisture
-improves soil structure and adds nutrients back into the soil
-reduces waste in the landfill
-reduces the need for synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.

I think of it as front loading soil health instead of trying to play catch up with nutrient depletion. I feed the soil, and the soil rewards me with delicious food and flowers 🍅🌻

First harvest of the year from my plot! Veronica and dianthus over winter beautifully. I can’t wait until I have permanent land so I can give more plants their forever home.

There is a lot to consider with farming. I’ve learned that starting everything all over again every year is not enjoyable or sustainable for me. I like to be able to care for a large variety of needs so I need a lot of my plants to just live with me for awhile with a smaller selection of rotating annuals plants.

Basically, I like plants that aren’t very needy and are happy with me just checking in with them from time to time 😆

Much like people and pets, some plants enjoy more touch than others. In general, I try and take a gentle approach to touching plants when I need to.

Touching plants can stress them, but can also encourage the stem and roots to grow heartier which will help them withstand other environmental factors such as wind which has a less gentle touch than I.

Plus, I’m such a tactile person, I needed to feel what a carpet of snapdragons felt like under my fingers!!!!
