I wanted to revisit one of my favorite design projects we completed back in 2021.

After years of trying to make peace with the wood color the original owners chose for our home, we finally admitted that nothing we tried was working. We rearranged, decorated, painted around it—you name it. Nothing felt quite right.

Then, after a little scrolling, I found the perfect inspiration photo.

Every year, the Utah Valley Parade of Homes showcases incredible architecture and thoughtfully designed homes. It’s one of my favorite places to find fresh ideas, and when I came across one photo, I knew instantly, it was exactly the direction we wanted to take.

Instead of removing all of the wood, we decided to embrace it by darkening the built-ins while painting all of the surrounding trim. That one decision completely transformed the room. It kept the warmth and richness of the stained fireplace mantel and built-ins while making the space feel dramatically lighter—both physically and visually.

Rather than competing with the rest of the woodwork, the fireplace wall became the true focal point of the room. The stained elements suddenly felt intentional instead of overwhelming.

A lot has changed in this room since 2021. We’ve updated the paint color, swapped out décor/furniture and continued to evolve the space, but the foundation of this design has remained exactly the same. That’s what I love most about it—it has adapted beautifully through every change we’ve made.

Five years later, I still wouldn’t change a thing.

So what do you think? Would you paint the trim and keep the wood accents, or would you have gone a different direction? Do you think this look has stood the test of time?

PS! The inspiration photo is in the comments!

Happy birthday to me! So, I know you all totally think I'm crazy, because what 25-year-old asks for a dishwasher for their birthday? Well, this one! The dishwasher was the only appliance we didn’t upgrade when we remodeled a couple of years ago, so it was time for a little something new to make doing dishes more fun! We went with the Bosch 800 series to match our fridge, and I have to say this was the best choice we could have made. It was very easy to install (I did it myself, and I had never installed a dishwasher before). It is unbelievably quiet; I literally thought it wasn’t on while it was running. Not to mention, the app makes it easy to keep track of the cycle time with additional cycles and settings for things like my china and crystal sets. Overall, this is a fabulous addition that I truly love!

It’s the rug follies!

So… My beautiful Zebra rug lasted all of 48hrs. In their defense, I bought it on marketplace and it was quite obvious based on its fate that something had been on it that was irresistible to the boys. Anyways here is rug number 8, in 10 years LOL! I hope y’all like it, I can not garuntee it will be here long. 😭

So, this is rug number I don’t even remember LOL! The family room is looking a little different today thanks to our lovely dogs who decided our persian oriental rug was a tasty treat. Anyways, while our rug is getting repaired and until we can trust the dogs again LOL let me introduce one of my new favorite pieces of décor, a fabulous large format zebra print rug. This piece is so much fun and I love the pattern and design it introduces to our home. Let me know what y’all think, are you team traditional OR do you love a touch of transitional design?

Change is abundant around here! We decided to undergo one of the largest AND messiest renovations this year which was removing all of the popcorn ceilings. Something we had done a little at a time over the years, but ultimately we have grown tired of half the house having them and half the house not. This is something I got quite good at not showcasing in my posts LOL! Anyways, we had a “if you give a mouse a cookie” moment, since everything was already torn up we figured why not make some other changes too! We had several rooms painted (the same colors) BUT I wanted to change one room… The living room. By now everyone has seen the melon sofa, a piece we have come to love SO much over the years. The sofa paired with the warm linen wing chairs and red floral drapes was creating an unharmonious look in the living room up against gray walls. So we are painting it one of my favorite colors that used to be in the family room and kitchen. I can’t wait to show y’all the finished product it will be so pretty!

By now yall should know that we swear by consignment and thrift shopping in this house!

In Daniel’s room, I created this ENTIRE look using 100% second hand items. The chest of drawers, books, florals, candle sticks and lamp is Southern Comforts Consignments and the fabulous mirror, drum roll please 🥁🥁🥁🥁 is from none other than Goodwill Industries International! Thats right, I paid a whopping $20 bucks for it and it was the perfect piece for this bedroom.

Let me know what y’all think! And remember to go check out your local consignment stores.

More spring changes being made!

In our mountain house two of our old barstools broke. After searching for a while I discovered the Frontgate Outlet in Roswell and found these beauty’s for a good price and pulled the trigger. I love how the wood tone compliments the cabinets and rock perfectly. Plus the leather brings the warm tones in to blend the kitchen with the rest of the great room. All in all these we the perfect find.

Let me know what y’all think!
