Your fine grater/zester isn't immortal…but it can last for years if you treat it right. Most rasp-style graters stay sharp at least 3-5+ years with regular home use . But unlike knives, they can’t be sharpened. Those tiny teeth aren't traditional blades. They’re etched and stamped into thin metal, resulting in those super sharp edges. Once they wear down, there’s no practical way to restore that structure at home.

What shortens their lifespan:
- Grating very hard foods like parmesan rinds and nutmeg
- Pressing down hard instead of using light pressure
- Tossing it loose in a drawer where the teeth get bent or flattened (use the cover)
- Running it through the dishwasher (heat + movement dulls it faster)

How to know it’s time for a new one:
- Grating anything becomes harder
- Citrus zest comes out thick or uneven instead of light and fluffy
- Cheese starts to clump or tear instead of falling into fine shreds
- The frame or handle is cracked or the metal is bent.

A sharp grater should feel almost effortless, like it’s doing the work for you. If it’s not, it’s probably time to replace it!

This time of the year can get busy! Make dinner easy this week with another delicious sheet pan dinner. Our favorite tip for easy clean up is using parchment paper. Whatever veggies we have in the fridge get chopped and loaded on, drizzled with olive oil, seasoning, and tossed. Add a quick protein like chicken sausage or Polish sausage, and dinner is ready quickly!

Take your grilled veggies to the next level this summer with an unexpected addition of anchovy butter! To make this deeply savory butter, start with softened butter and mash in a few finely minced anchovy fillets until they dissolve into a smooth, umami-rich base. Add a small clove of minced garlic, fresh lemon zest and a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten everything, along with a pinch of chili flakes, black pepper, and just a light touch of salt (the anchovies do most of that work).

Use it two ways:
- Before grilling: toss or brush vegetables lightly with the butter so it coats and flavors as they cook.
- After grilling: finish hot veggies with a brush of the butter so it melts into the charred edges

Try it on grilled or oven-roasted vegetables like zucchini, corn, peppers, asparagus, cabbage slices, or fennel. It transforms simple, affordable summer produce into something rich, and packed with flavor. No one will taste “anchovy,” just a buttery, restaurant-level finish that makes vegetables the main event.
