She would make arrangements and gift them to every friend and family member whether there was an occasion or not. My father would also suprize and send them to her during his deployments and I would witness the joy it brought her to give and receive them. Fast forward to 2014, my now husband and I had our first date. He was the first man that stood in front of the restaurant with a beautiful bouqu
et of flowers. Right there, I knew he was the one. In 2017, we were married in a beautiful ceremony in the countryside of Stuart, Va. Fresh flowers were used in our decor and my bouquet was designed by a local florist. After our wedding, I was sad to see the flowers be thrown away. I decided to keep mine and see what would happen if I air dried them. I probably did what every bride would do and that was to stick them in a vase and tuck them away so they would dry naturally. In 2020, while we were all stuck inside, I became curious about how my wedding bouquet was really doing. Eagerly, I began to pull it apart only to fall in love with the detailed craftsmanship the florist had put in. I wanted to learn how she created it. I began playing with flowers and learning floral techniques through the Floral Design Institute online everyday, sometimes all day. I started to give and sell floral arrangements and was so happy, but I knew there was more. I began to follow other florists and came across flower preservation. I became curious again and needed to learn about it more. The idea of being able to preserve flowers so that you can keep them forever was like a light bulb that came on and was shining bright in my heart. I began to experiment and tested every flower I could get my hands on. As I was documenting my flower journey, a friend of mine came to me and told me about an artist who sets the preserved bouquets in resin and presses them beautifully to create amazing frames for brides who desire to keep their wedding bouquets. I became inspired by the many artists that I came across with and it was my father that told me to stay with it. I purchased my first resin kit, heat gun, and protective gear. I started with a rose, then a carnation and everything went well. I felt like I was ready for a bigger piece. My cousin had just celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary and wanted me to make a piece for her using sunflowers. To say the least, I failed miserably. It was so hard to do, but nonetheless, my father kept pushing me to keep trying and so I did. I began to create some beautiful smaller pieces and really just wanted to keep them to myself. On the other hand, my father told me to share with the world so that I can build my confidence and so I did. Literally, the next morning, my father calls me frantically to let me know that he is being rushed to the hospital. I rushed to get there and later that night he passed away. Condolences and flowers came from everywhere. Days after, I heard his voice to keep going and so I did. In 2021, while I was grieving, and perfecting my craft, I received a few orders for floral arrangements and pressed floral art. I pushed myself and it was not easy. Some days I could not even get out of bed, but I began to notice the comfort and peace I was feeling as I was creating pieces for birthdays, weddings, and memorial flowers. My husband took place in encouraging me. Without me even asking, he gifted me resin molds and frames for Christmas. It was confirmation to keep going and so I did. Today in 2022, everything started coming full circle. We moved to the mountains, where he grew up, in Woolwine, Va about 20 minutes outside of where we were married. Surrounded by nature and flowers, I created my first commissioned floral resin block using memorial flowers from a friends grandmother who passed way. Since then I have received orders for resin trays and other unique items. Through the pain of still grieving my father, it brings me so much joy to create such meaningful pieces for people to cherish forever. Every piece is delicately handcrafted and most importantly made with love. If there is anything that can be created for you or a loved one as a gift or a piece of art, please feel free to send me a message or email me at [email protected].
