Before, the lighting in this open space felt underwhelming and honestly a little out of scale. The dining area didn't have the warmth or balance it needed, and the room felt dimmer than it should have.
Our approach centered around a Picnic in Nature concept, inspired by the clients’ existing picnic-style dining table. It was already a strong anchor, but with the original bench seating, the area leaned a little too outdoorsy and utilitarian. To soften the room, we replaced the benches with plush, comfortable chairs in deeper nature-inspired tones, similar to the quiet shadows you see in the woods. That added contrast, comfort, and gave the table a more elevated presence.
To bring the dining area to life, we introduced a sculptural chandelier with lily-shaped glass that feels like spring blooms caught mid-air. It creates a soft focal point while casting a warm, gentle glow over the table, making the whole area feel more gathered and inviting.
For the island, we stayed within the picnic-inspired story in a more subtle way. The swivel stools in faux tan leather, detailed with baseball-style stitching, bring in a nostalgic outdoor feeling without making the design feel too literal. Paired with hand-blown lighting that softly echoes the folded curves of a baseball glove, the space feels playful, personal, and still refined.
Now, the dining area feels brighter, warmer, and more connected to the wooded setting around it. It's no longer just a place to sit down for a meal. It feels like an indoor picnic surrounded by comfort, memory, and nature.
