What an incredible day yesterday—easily one of my favorite experiences with Leadership Wylie.
We had the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in Public Safety, starting with a tour of the state-of-the-art Public Safety building that opened in November 2020. This facility brings together the Police Department, Fire Administration, 911 Communications, and Municipal Court all under one roof.
We got a behind-the-scenes look at how the Municipal Court operates and learned how many surrounding cities it serves—the new courtroom is absolutely beautiful. Hearing directly from the Police Chief and touring the department was eye-opening, from the gym and jail to the *new* breakroom (which, fun fact, they didn’t even have before—the old “breakroom” doubled as a courtroom, evidence processing room, and more!).
One of the most impactful moments was visiting 911 Communications and seeing firsthand the calm, strength, and professionalism it takes to support people during some of their most vulnerable moments.
From there, we headed to one of Wylie’s fire stations and training facilities, where we got hands-on experience with EMS equipment and life-saving techniques. Safe to say—I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. We also watched a vehicle extraction demo… and wow, the “jaws of life” tear through a car like it’s nothing.
We wrapped up with a rappel demonstration and water response overview. I’ve always secretly wanted to rappel off a building, and while I may never go full-scale, getting to try it (with about 30 emergency responders nearby 😄) was an absolute blast.
There was so much more I wanted to ask and learn, but what I walked away with most was an overwhelming sense of pride.
Pride in the men and women who show up every day to protect and serve. Pride in the way Wylie’s first responders go beyond the job—making it a priority to connect with the community, shake hands, and build real relationships. And pride in being part of a town that supports its people so well.
I’m proud to be a business owner here.
And I’m proud to call Wylie HOME. ❤️
