Welcome to Stacie’s Vintage Ventures!
Last week, I threw a vintage-themed pumpkin carving party for my teenage son and his friends.
They had so much fun, and I may have had just as much fun planning and decorating!
A lot of my inspiration came from the old Dennison’s Bogie Books. The originals are highly collectible and can be pretty pricey, but | found some reprints that still have all of those wonderful old illustrations and ideas. Dennison published these little party books in the early 1900s, filled with ideas for using their crepe paper and die cuts to throw the perfect party. They included Halloween menus, decorating ideas, party games, favors and souvenirs, and so much more. Basically, Pinterest for the early 1900s! 😁

We set everything up outside in the stable yard, where I hung my Beistle Halloween die cuts along with balloons, crepe paper streamers, pumpkin paper lanterns, and paper chains.
My favorite green dresser became the food serving station, surrounded by blow molds, pumpkins, festive napkins, ghost cups, and lots of orange and black.
One of my favorite little details was the popcorn boxes. I purchased vintage Halloween treat bag graphics online, printed them on cardstock, and glued them onto simple paper popcorn boxes. We filled them with popcorn for the kids to mix with candy corn and caramel apple candies. Such an easy way to make something new look like it came straight from an old Halloween party!

I also made vintage-inspired prize ribbons using old tart tins. I added ribbon, crepe-paper streamers, bats, and vintage Halloween images, then hot glued everything into place. Starbucks gift cards went along with the ribbons because, they are teenagers.
Prizes were awarded for the most apples bobbed in two minutes and, of course, best pumpkin carving!
They actually bobbed for apples! The kids were great sports and really got into the old fashioned party games.
They also had fun with my Beistle fortune telling centerpiece, which fit the vintage Halloween theme perfectly.

Welcome back to Stacie’s Vintage Ventures! 🎃 October starts at the end of this week, so I’m still pulling out all of my vintage Halloween favorites and getting the house ready for spooky season!
This week, I tried two different methods for turning dollar store plastic pumpkins into vintage inspired paper mache jack-o-lanterns. One was made with CelluClay, and for the other, I used Mod Podge and paper towels. These were my first attempts, so let’s just say they turned out cute and primitive looking, not exactly professional. 😂 But honestly, I think that adds to their charm!

They blend right in with the vintage Halloween decor on my jadeite hutch. This hutch is one of my favorite spots to decorate for the holidays, especially when I pull out my Beistle Halloween cutouts. They make such a big impact and instantly give everything that nostalgic and old fashioned Halloween feel!
I even hang some of these, and a few of the larger ones in my classroom. My middle schoolers love them! They remind me of the Halloween decorations in my own classrooms growing up and just how exciting the whole month of October felt.

Welcome back to Stacie’s Vintage Ventures from CampGilmore! Today I’m sharing some of the blow molds, buckets, and other Halloween pieces I’ve picked up over the last few months while preparing for fall!

I have them all displayed on this cute Marketplace dresser that I painted green. It will eventually end up in the mudroom at Potluck Cabin, but for the next few months, I’m keeping it here to hold supplies and to display decor and food for fall parties! 🎃

I really lucked out when I found a Marketplace seller who had a yard full of old blow molds. Many were full of water and bugs 😬, but I waded through them and came home with some great finds, including the haystack pumpkin and a ghost from the 1960s. He also had a few vintage blow mold buckets that I mixed in with some newer ones I already had.
The large pumpkin is a new Walmart purchase made from a Union Products mold, but my favorite might be the masked pumpkin I found on eBay. His face is just too good!

I’ve also found some marvelous Beistle Halloween touches, including the tissue-paper fan and the felt cat Halloween party hat. I love adding pieces like these because they instantly give everything that old fashioned Halloween party feel.

But the icing on the cake has to be the Tru-Tone Christmas lights lights in candy corn colors! 🧡💛🤍 They have the warm glow of old fashioned bulbs without getting hot and the packaging is amazing! The vintage style graphics are so good that the box doubles as decor!

Welcome back to Stacie’s Vintage Ventures with Flea Market Decor Magazine! Football season is here, which means one thing in Alabama it’s tailgate time! 🏈 In these parts we take our college football and our tailgating pretty seriously. 😂

Today I’m sharing a tailgate setup filled with vintage treasures, favorite team memorabilia, and two recipes featuring products and flavors from my home state of Alabama!
I started with a vintage chenille bedspread that I repurposed as a tablecloth. A vintage picnic tin became a vessel for flowers, complete with homemade felt and chalkboard pennants, while an old thermos holds another little bouquet. A plaid Skotch Jug on a cake stand serves up drinks into vintage glassware or Solo cups, because it is a tailgate after all!

I also added some memorabilia! Vintage team pennants, a houndstooth hat in honor of legendary Alabama football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, a miniature Denny Chimes made by my great-grandfather, and a thrifted megaphone outfitted with a vintage sticker all add a little nostalgia to the table.

Wooden folding chairs provide seating along with vintage Skotch Koolers filled with local b**r and glass bottle sodas. I even used an old locker basket to hold napkins and plates, and pie tins that make the cutest plates!

But we all know the real star of any tailgate is the food!
In Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama and over in Auburn at Auburn University you’ll find everything from barbecue and game day dips to shrimp boils, fun sides, desserts, and signature drinks filling tailgate tents.

I even got to experience tailgating at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, and it was a full on event! Brisket, sides, traditions, and football it was definitely a tailgate to remember.

Tailgating itself has a cool history. As automobiles became more common in the early 20th century, fans could travel farther to games. Small towns didn’t have enough restaurants so fans began bringing along food and drinks to enjoy near their cars before kickoff. Over the years those simple game day picnics evolved into elaborate tailgate parties on some campuses.

Vintage game birds for the win! 🦆
Ducks are everywhere this season from sweaters and dinnerware to pillows and home décor, and I am loving it! I’ve been collecting vintage duck, goose, pheasant, and quail pieces for the past 10 years or so, and they fit right in with my lodge/camp house aesthetic.
Duck decoys are my favorite, especially the vintage paper mache ones with glass eyes. A close second is my collection of game bird glassware from the 1950s and ’60s. There’s just something about those old illustrations and colors that gives the space a vintage sporting lodge feel.
If you come across some of the newer plastic decoys, don’t pass them up! A little Mod Podge, sand paper, and acrylic paint can help transform them into vintage look a-likes.
Just don’t be like me 😂. I was told I could use any of the old duck decoys in the closet for one of my projects. Apparently I grabbed one of my son’s brand new ones instead. He forgave me, but his response was,“Please tell me you didn’t throw away the clip and the weight.” I did not and I just owe him one wood duck 😬 In my defense, it looks much better vintage!

I rounded up some of my favorite game bird finds and collectibles and a few things you might want to keep an eye out for on your next thrifting, flea market, or antique shopping adventure.
So if you spot an old decoy, a pheasant plate, or a set of vintage duck glasses hiding on a dusty shelf grab them!
