What would you do if your boss told you that you were too independent and made too many independent decisions?
I’ll tell you what I did.
About a month later, I walked into HR and said, “I resign, effective immediately.”
After 26 years in Big Pharma, I was done.
And now? I’m a ceramic artist. ❤️
The Bucks County Herald just published a feature about my rather unexpected journey from a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and pharmaceutical research and drug development to starting HLSingsArtistry and creating “art you can use.”
One of my favorite parts of the article:
“I saw very different corporate cultures, and some of them were honestly pretty disappointing. One company was extremely conservative, another often felt like a sexist boys’ club, and another had a culture where bullying behavior was far too common.”
So here’s the fun part:
Without looking at my LinkedIn profile, can you guess which pharma company was conservative, which was the sexist boys’ club, and which was the bunch of bullies? 😂
The article also talks about growing up in Encino, California — becoming an original Valley Girl in 1982, living down the road from the Jackson 5 — and somehow eventually falling in love with Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
And I especially love how it ends:
“Now that I have left the industry to start my own business, HLSingsArtistry, Bucks County feels like a great place to be creative.”
And about my ceramics:
“I create one of a kind, handmade pieces and my focus is on ‘art you can use,’” blending decorative beauty with functional everyday ceramic pieces like cookware and pottery.
Quite a change from Big Pharma. And I couldn’t be happier about it.
Come see what I’m making this weekend at the Brandywine Festival of the Arts in Wilmington!
