When our clients shared that their bedtime routine involved tip-toeing through a sleeping child’s bedroom on the way to their own, we suggested a game of “musical floor plans” for a better night’s sleep.

The dark and cramped family bathroom was transformed with a total renovation that included closing one of 3 entrances and adding a second sink. The primary bedroom relocated to an unused former artist’s studio with a dedicated staircase to provide a bright - and private - retreat. Finally, the original primary bedroom became a cozy library centrally located on the second floor.

With creative floor plan adjustments the whole family now has a cozy space for bedtime stories, accessible from each bedroom. And these hard-working parents can get some much needed rest!

In her own Yarmouth home, named for the sea captain who lovingly built the property in 1844, Sarah set out to restore two sunwashed rooms with many original features intact. Talented craftspeople restored the original interior shutters and wavy-glass windows, then hand stripped a century of paint from the wide plank pine floors.

Each room was washed in rich historical paint colors and furnished with Sarah’s signature mix of old and new. Today, the Captain’s Quarters serve the Fischer family as a dedicated home office and dining room. We love how these spaces embrace historic character without sacrificing modern conveniences.
