A new surface sample just landed in the studio and this one represents an exciting step forward in material innovation.

Wondr from Ēclos by Cosentino pairs a luminous white background with expressive gray and blue veining, but what makes Ēclos especially noteworthy goes far beyond its appearance.

Ēclos is manufactured with at least 50% recycled content and contains less than 1% crystalline silica, an important advancement both environmentally and for the professionals who fabricate the material. Reducing crystalline silica can significantly reduce one of the occupational hazards associated with cutting and processing traditional quartz-based surfaces, although proper fabrication safety practices are still essential.

Its INLAYR® technology also carries the design through the material rather than simply decorating the surface, allowing the veining and movement to remain visible at cuts, edges, and details.

As designers, we are always looking for materials that bring together beauty, performance, responsible manufacturing, and consideration for the craftspeople who bring our designs to life.

Wondr is certainly one we are excited to explore in an upcoming project.

A cabinetmaker recently told me he despised glazed finishes. I questioned why, because when they’re done well, they can be beautiful.

Then he mentioned they had recently lost their finisher of 25 years.

That stayed with me.

Perhaps the issue isn’t the finish. Perhaps it’s that we are losing the craftspeople who know how to execute these details beautifully and decades of knowledge along with them.

Finishers, cabinetmakers, millworkers, skilled tradespeople, draftspeople and technical designers possess knowledge that cannot simply be replaced by technology.

AI can create an image of beautiful cabinetry or intricate architectural details. But it cannot build them. It cannot apply the finish, understand how materials behave, or replace the knowledge gained from years of working with your hands.

And a beautiful rendering is only the beginning. Someone still needs to understand construction, proportion, materials and detailing to bring that vision into the real world.

As an industry, we need to embrace technology while also asking an equally important question:

How do we preserve craftsmanship and pass it on to the next generation?

Because once that knowledge is gone, it may be much harder to recover than we realize.

Progress shouldn’t mean leaving craftsmanship behind. It should mean carrying the best of it forward.

These details don’t happen by accident. They begin with thoughtful design and are brought to life by skilled hands.

Looking back at one of our featured projects.

Earlier this year, shared this beautiful transformation featuring a primary suite addition and home renovation designed by Rineer Designs.

What began as a need for more space became an opportunity to look at the home differently. Through thoughtful planning, we created a new primary suite while reimagining existing spaces to improve the home's flow, function, and connection.

The project includes a serene primary bedroom and our award-winning primary bath, “Whispering Wellness,” along with additional renovations throughout the home; all designed to feel cohesive rather than simply “added on.”

This is one of the things we love most about renovation design: discovering possibilities within a home that our clients may not have initially imagined.

A Progress Snapshot of This Bedroom Transformation

We’re sharing a peek at the progress of this bedroom as it continues to come together.

What was once a small, dark bedroom has been reimagined with a larger footprint, a new window bringing in more natural daylight, thoughtfully selected furnishings, and a beautiful floral wallcovering that creates the perfect backdrop.

There are still finishing touches to come, but we love seeing the transformation take shape and the original design vision come to life.

We’re excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Molly, who joined Rineer Designs this week as our Administrative Assistant!

Molly brings extensive experience in retail, with a strong background in client service, team management, operations, and organization. Her ability to understand individual client needs and find thoughtful, personalized solutions complements the level of care and attention we value at Rineer Designs.

A look inside the primary suite of one of our full-home renovations. ✨
