A Personal Note from Heather

I would like to take a moment to share something personal with our clients, colleagues, friends, and followers.

Over the past several weeks, I have been in and out of the office while navigating some difficult family emergencies. Sadly, yesterday morning, my father passed away.

This has been an emotional and challenging time for my family, and I am taking some time to be with my loved ones as we navigate this loss.

I want to sincerely thank our wonderful clients, colleagues, and industry partners for your patience, kindness, and understanding during this time. Your compassion and flexibility with meetings, correspondence, and project schedules have meant more than you know.

While our team at Rineer Designs continues to move projects forward, my availability may remain somewhat limited over the coming days.

Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and for allowing me the time needed to be present with my family.

AI Renderings vs. SketchUp: Why Professional Design Matters

AI can create beautiful images, but can those designs actually be built?

Here’s a perfect example from one of our projects!

The first image was enhanced by ChatGPT using our original SketchUp rendering (second image). While AI improved the realism, it also added a stool and area rug; two elements that would interfere with the accessibility requirements of this bathroom.

We often receive AI inspiration images featuring beautiful cabinetry and architectural details that simply wouldn’t fit within the actual dimensions of a space.

AI can create visual inspiration, but it doesn’t reliably account for spatial limitations, accessibility, or construction requirements.

At Rineer Designs, our CAD drawings and SketchUp models are developed using actual measurements and thoughtful design solutions. Renderings help our clients visualize those designs before construction begins.

A beautiful image is one thing. A beautiful, functional, and buildable design is another.

One of the most valuable parts of our design process is helping clients see what we already envision.

As designers, we are trained to visualize how colors, materials, textures, lighting, and architectural details will come together long before construction begins. However, translating that vision into something our clients can clearly understand is equally important.

That is where SketchUp 3D modeling and photorealistic renderings become such valuable communication tools.

They allow our clients to:

A look at what we are planning for our Rineer Designs studio.

As we continue designing the studio, we’re thinking beyond how each space will look. We want those who visit us to eventually be able to experience the design firsthand; seeing the cabinetry, finishes, tile, lighting, window treatments, and thoughtful details we incorporate into our clients’ homes.

This mudroom and laundry space is one of the areas we’re excited to bring to life. It will be a working example of how even a compact, hardworking space can be both beautiful and highly functional.

Rineer Designs is looking for an experienced Architectural–Interior Design Technician to join our team at our Design Studio in York, PA!

This is a technical, drafting-focused position for someone who enjoys the detailed side of architecture and interior design and understands how design concepts become accurate, buildable construction documents.

Our projects include residential renovations, additions, new homes, kitchens and baths, whole-home transformations, outdoor living environments, custom cabinetry and millwork, and commercial interiors.

We’re looking for experience with AutoCAD, residential construction documents, foundation and roof plans, elevations and sections, commercial interior documentation and codes, cabinetry/millwork detailing, and field measuring.

3+ years of relevant professional experience preferred.

This is a technical, drafting-focused position for someone who enjoys the detailed side of architecture and interior design and understands how design concepts translate into accurate, buildable construction documents.

There is something special about putting pencil to paper. ✏️

While so much of the design process today is digital, hand rendering is still very much a part of who I am as a designer. Before photorealistic renderings and sophisticated design software became the norm, this was how I brought a vision to life; one line, one detail, and one shadow at a time.

This is one of my hand-drawn renderings, and looking back at it reminds me how valuable those foundational skills continue to be. Hand sketching allows me to explore an idea freely, communicate a concept quickly, and think through the architecture and details of a space in a very personal way.

Technology has certainly changed how we present our designs, but sometimes there is simply nothing quite like a hand-drawn concept.
