I get calls all the time for Boone, NC. When hurricane Helene created mudslides, flooding and brought down roads that was only the start of the issues. All of the effects of the natural disaster have effectively shut down the important ‘leaf travel season’ and festival season (festivals are cancelled, some of which, we have been told, brought in funds to sustain people in the area for months, like the area Woolly Worm festival). On top of the area devistation and the lack of economic opportunity, winter is coming soon to the mountains.
We are collecting warm coats, gloves, hats, blankets and sleeping bags to take to them (please have laundered and ready to wear when dropped off). Live too far away for drop off? We have an Amazon list. Want to make a monetary donation? Resources for all of these options can be found at https://lnkd.in/gsCkbqAD
I don’t know the people of Boone, NC. What I do know is that if this were my community, we would want help from friends in tourism. Here we come, Boone.
