On my next sweet sour pork recipe research in Tokyo 🇯🇵 here it’s called Subuta. It’s quite good and actually tastes similar to a couple of Chinese restaurants in KL🇲🇾. They use pork neck cut so had a good portion of meat over fat, which is what I prefer. The sauce is a bit light, the same in KL.

880JPY for a decent portion which is $5.50USD, reasonably priced.

Cumin spiced hand pulled noodles with lamb 🐑

It looks like a hot mess, but it’s really good. Could’ve used a bit more salt. They used beef stock for the sauce. Lots of peppers and onions too.

Definitely something I want to make at home.

Hidden (but not really) in a back alley of Kuala Lumpur’s 🇲🇾 Chinatown is Wong Mee Coffee Stall an old school kopitiam serving traditional Malaysian breakfast.

Georgetown, Penang🇲🇾 is one of my favorite places for a morning stroll. You never know what you’d find, but when it comes to food, it’s usually really good!

If you’re around the Heritage Quarters in Georgetown I highly recommend dropping by 📍Cakoi 166 🙏

I swear Malaysia has cracked the fried chicken code. Almost everyplace I go to has crispy juicy chicken. I bought some seasonings here in Kuala Lumpur. The outside has a thin crust. So I’ll be using a light batter.

With roti canai, dal for dipping and hot ginger tea it’s my favorite morning meal.

Huge thanks to the team at 📍Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam, 🇲🇾 for showing me how to make their Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng. Learning from head chef Shahid Kahn was a blast.

Watching how he cooked the coconut infused rice, to seasoning the chicken, and making the essential sambal sauce.

I thought they were joking when they said I had to wash the dishes though.

Kidding aside, Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng is Malaysia’s national dish. Through the years I’ve been traveling around parts of Malaysia trying different versions of it. Watching Chef Kahn work his magic in the kitchen has provided some helpful insight, in developing my own recipe.

And the Malay sambal, a fiery chili sauce is the key.
