NHÀ MỚI XONG - MÙI LẠ TỪ ĐÂU RA?
Dù vật tư tốt đến đâu, quy trình kỹ đến mấy, thì sau khi thi công xong, bước vào căn nhà mới vẫn sẽ ngửi thấy một mùi gì đó là lạ. Hăng hăng, cay cay, đôi khi nồng đến mức muốn mở cửa bỏ chạy.
Chuyện này bình thường hơn nhiều người nghĩ. Mùi đó đến từ VOCs và Formaldehyde - có trong sơn, keo dán gỗ, vecni, và cả một số vật liệu hoàn thiện. Mấy chất này bay hơi mạnh nhất trong những ngày đầu sau thi công.
Hít nhẹ thì cay mắt, đau đầu. Hít nhiều, hít lâu trong không gian kín thì ảnh hưởng hô hấp. Nhà có trẻ nhỏ, người già, mẹ bầu thì càng phải để ý.
Vậy xử lý sao cho đúng và nhanh? Mấy cách này áp dụng là thấy khác liền:
- Thông gió đối lưu có "kỹ thuật": Mở toang cửa, đặt quạt máy hướng thẳng ra ngoài để "hút" khí độc thoát ra nhanh.
- Dùng máy lọc không khí: Bật chế độ cao nhất 24/7 (nhớ chọn loại có màng lọc than hoạt tính) để xử lý VOCs.
- Bẫy mùi trong tủ kín: Nhét túi than hoạt tính, bã cà phê khô vào từng hộc tủ, ngăn kéo - nơi mùi keo gỗ tích tụ nhiều nhất.
- Trung hòa mùi bằng giấm & vỏ dứa: Đặt bát giấm trắng ở góc phòng, hoặc đun sôi vỏ dứa/sả. Tinh dầu và axit tự nhiên đánh bay mùi hắc rất nhanh.
- Lau bề mặt nội thất: Dùng khăn ẩm pha chút giấm loãng lau qua mặt gỗ, sàn nhà để rửa trôi lớp bụi sơn, keo còn bám lại.
⚠️ Và tránh mấy điều này: xịt phòng hóa học, nến thơm, đóng kín cửa bật điều hòa, dọn vào ở liền khi mùi còn nồng.

NEWLY FINISHED HOME - WHERE DOES THAT STRANGE SMELL COME FROM?
No matter how high-quality the materials are or how meticulous the construction process is, stepping into a newly finished house often comes with a strange odor. Pungent, sharp, and sometimes so overwhelming that you just want to throw the doors open and run away.
This is much more common than many people think. That smell comes from VOCs and Formaldehyde — found in paint, wood glue, varnish, and various finishing materials. These substances evaporate the most during the first few days post-construction.
Mild inhalation can cause watery eyes and headaches. Heavy and prolonged inhalation in enclosed spaces can affect your respiratory system. Homes with young children, the elderly, or pregnant women need to pay even closer attention.
So, how do you handle it correctly and quickly? Apply these methods to see an immediate difference:
- "Technical" cross-ventilation: Open all doors wide and place electric fans facing directly outward to quickly "suck" out the toxic gases.
- Use an air purifier: Turn it on the highest setting 24/7 (make sure to choose one with an activated carbon filter) to tackle VOCs.
- Odor traps in closed cabinets: Place activated carbon bags or dry coffee grounds into every drawer and cabinet compartment — where the wood glue smell accumulates the most.
- Neutralize odors with vinegar & pineapple peels: Place bowls of white vinegar in the corners of the room, or boil pineapple peels/lemongrass. Natural essential oils and acids will eliminate the pungent smell very quickly.
- Wipe down interior surfaces: Use a damp cloth mixed with a little diluted vinegar to wipe across wooden surfaces and floors to wash away any remaining paint dust and glue residue.
⚠️ And avoid these mistakes: using chemical room sprays, burning scented candles, keeping doors closed with the AC on, or moving in immediately while the smell is still strong.
