It was a Wicked Pissah of a trip and I loved every moment of being reminded of that 20-something me
I firmly believe that living on the southern coast of Maine teaches you that life, like the tides is ever changing. Hold on to the people and places that feel like home, and trust the journey like you know the lobstah rolls from the footbridge are always the best in town! 🦞
I think it can be odd for people to think that those of us with an online presence had a life that wasn’t documented on social media, but that’s exactly what my time in Southern Maine was. Pre-Social Media 2000s working as a waitress, retailing, and a Nanny to a well-known family in the area. I experienced Maine in all its forms.
I learned that it’s ok to have a tough exterior and a sweet center. People actually consider it a luxury. That smart business people compete with themselves. Not their neighbor who helps them out in the winter storms.
I learned that working hard for others is just as important as working hard for yourself. Commitment is more than a handshake, it’s caring enough to help others survive.
I learned winters can be harsh, long and lonely. But if you can make a call, get in the cah and head to the cove someone you know will be there even if it’s just a seagull who likes to steal your fries. 🍟
I learned that finding peace is the goal. All you need to do is stop long enough to see it’s all around you. 🌊
Community isn’t giving people a play by play of your day. Community are those you share life with or a plate of oysters while singing at the top of your lungs Hotel California at the piano bar on a Friday night.
That the coolest people you’ll ever meet are the most eccentric, didn’t peek in high school, and live life by their own code as disruptors. ✌🏽
And that even if things change, some will stay the same. That the smell of the salty sea while crossing a steel bridge immediately feels like a welcome home. That places make you who you are, but the people are what make the place.
Yes, I’m a fiber artist, sewist and fabric shop owner. I am also a forever Mainer for more reasons than the comfort food.
