It’s been the hardest few weeks of my life. But I’m trying to use it to re-frame my thinking on things and what’s important.

The pressure of social media is real - we’re not designed to know what hundreds of other people are doing at any moment in time. I’m trying to aimlessly scroll a little less and give myself permission to post less and be more real.

In terms of home renovation, it means things are slow (as per usual 😂) but that’s real life right? Rooms don’t get finished in the click of a finger or swish of a paint brush!

Family and friends are the most important thing and times like this really make it clear who truly cares.

Well done if you made it through all of this but if there’s one thing you take away, then let it be to appreciate the “simple” things in life - a chat with a friend, a hot cup of coffee, hugging your child good night and having a safe place to call home 🖤

No regrets over here!

I get darker paint colours aren’t for everyone but I definitely don’t find them depressing.

This room always feels cosy, inviting and I think the deeper colour adds a touch of drama too!

What do you think - do you feel more relaxed in a lighter coloured bedroom or embrace the dark?!

I think a lot of people think that if you want a calming space, it has to mean painting it a light colour - I disagree!

I personally find deeper colours really relaxing but we’re all different. The trick to discover what colours you find calming and bring those into spaces like bedrooms where you want to feel relaxed.

Even if you do go for a lighter colour on the walls, there’s so much you can do to add interest and cosyness:

•statement headboard which gives either a contrast to the walls or a pattern.
•layered lighting - if you don’t have space for bedside lamps then you can get plug in wall lights like we have to save space. Never just rely on the big light!
•lots of textiles - you could add some bold bedding in a complementary or tonal colour to your walls, plus cushions and throws. I also love rugs for some texture underfoot as we have hard floors upstairs.
•attention to details like switches and handles can really elevate a room. We have gold in our bedroom but you could pick any metal you like, just avoid basic white light switches if possible. Using the same metal throughout the room gives a cohesive and calming vibe.

I hope this has given you some ideas!

Who’s with me?!

I’m all for sharing the pretty pictures of our room transformations, period features and DIY projects BUT I think it’s really important to share the reality too!

Our projects take MONTHS to complete and our house rarely looks like it does on here (there are always at least 3 pairs of shoes scattered w***y nilly). At least I have these photos for the memories 😂

The befores shock me too 🤣

This house has definitely been a labour of love over the last 11 years and there’s still lots we want to do!

Paint colours:

•front door, stairs and hallway/landing woodwork: Railings

•living room: Hicks Blue

•kitchen: cabinets are a colour match to Farrow & Ball Railings; walls are Little Greene China Clay Mid.

•main bedroom: Vintage Vogue

Even though there’s a lot to do on this room renovation, I feel excited to have started now!

Last weekend we opened up the chimney and took the gypsum plaster off the bricks to allow it to breathe. This area has been the worst affected area with salt contamination, so we want to clean the chimney out and have it re-plastered with lime.

As usual with renovations, nothing is straight forward - we uncovered some dodgy brickwork underneath that may need repointing and I think we’ll need a new lintel. We’ve put a wooden support there in the meantime. Also there is the old gas flue from the previous owner’s gas fire. If you have any idea what kind of trade I need to contact to help us safely remove this then let me know!

On the other side of the room, the wall adjacent to the kitchen has lime plaster under the gypsum skim. We’re exposing that in the hope we can repair any damaged areas and paint over with a suitable breathable paint 🤞

The ceiling will also need re-plastering but we can have that done in gypsum as breathability isn’t an issue there.

After all the plastering is done, we’ll be laying the original parquet flooring! So excited about doing that 🙌

We’re aiming to be done(ish) by Christmas! As always, our renovations are “slow” as we are fitting this in around work, kids and general life! Plus trying to manage the costs as best we can. I’ll be showing all the progress on this room over the next few months, so stay tuned!

Or if you just have a bad back like me!

I hate cleaning but this gadget makes it a bit more tolerable. And before anyone asks - yes I use separate attachments for bathroom and kitchen 😅

Yep even us “influencers” don’t feel like we have it together!

There’s so much amazing content online but it can make you feel like you’re not “enough” when you’re not in a position to decorate your house, buy new clothes, go out for fancy meals and go on holidays.

I’m here to show you that real life side of things - it’s not always full steam ahead on home renovations. It’s expensive, time consuming and when a spanner gets in the works (like one of you losing your job), things come to a halt.

I definitely feel like a fraud on this app sometimes as I feel very boring and normal! Let me know if you want to see more of my boring life 🤣

AD | My perfect kind of lazy morning 🙌

I had the best night sleep on my new bedding from - this is the Umma set in pink. How pretty is that subtle pattern and I’m loving the warm tones of the mulberry throw and cushion!

One of my favourite simple pleasures is having a hot drink in bed in the morning, before the kids demand anything from me!

What’s your morning order - tea or coffee?
