Particle Bowls are my favourite forms to make, and somehow I almost never have any in stock.

I keep telling myself that I’m going to make a few extras, actually photograph them properly and put them on the website. And then they sell before I get around to it.

So here we are, already heading toward September, and once again I’m telling myself that THIS is the time I’m going to make a few extra. We’ll see 😂

They’re sculptural, meticulously handmade, each one comes out a little different, and as you can probably tell, they’re also ridiculously fun to photograph. Do you own a Particle Bowl?!

One of my favourite things about teaching pottery is working with complete beginners.

Every week I meet people who tell me they’ve never touched clay before, or that the last time they did was in high school. Watching that initial uncertainty slowly turn into curiosity, confidence, and often surprise is still one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

For over twenty years I’ve introduced hundreds of people to clay. Some came once and crossed pottery off their bucket list. Some discovered a hobby they still enjoy years later. Some joined community studios, and a few even became professional potters😀

I never know where someone’s first pottery class will lead, and that’s still my favourite part of teaching.

If you’ve been thinking about trying pottery, I’d love to welcome you into my little studio in Burnaby✨

One of the things I love most about teaching pottery is watching people arrive convinced they have no artistic ability, only to make something they genuinely love (and will use) a few hours later.

Will you become a master potter in one class? Probably not. Pottery is a craft, and like any craft, it takes time, practice, mistakes, and a lot of practice.

But the first step still counts.

Whether pottery becomes your next obsession or simply a memorable afternoon, there is something magical about taking a lump of clay and turning it into an object that didn’t exist before.

Every piece in this post was made by one of my students. Some tried the wheel. Some chose handbuilding. Most had never touched clay before, and yet here we are. When supported by a creative and kind teacher who remembers very well what it was like when she was a beginner herself, great things happen.

If you’ve been curious about pottery but keep telling yourself you’re “not creative,” I hear that sentence almost every week.

So far, clay hasn’t believed a single one of them.

Your truly,
Anna

The eternal struggle between wanting to reinvent everything… and wanting to go deeper into something familiar.

That’s probably why I’ve been making my Whistler mugs for well over a decade now. They keep evolving, but still stay rooted in that quiet, minimalist direction I love so much.

This small limited edition was inspired by the hummingbirds and blossoms suddenly appearing all over the neighbourhood lately. I played with layered imagery and a glossy clear glaze over the illustrations, which creates a beautiful contrast against the silky white surface these mugs are known for.

I think that balance between change and continuity is what keeps me interested in making the same form again and again. Every new variation teaches me something different.

These are heading to shops soon, though pieces often disappear before they even make it there, especially during wedding season. They make such lovely gifts for newlyweds, bridesmaids, or someone you really love.

I do occasionally take custom requests too, though mostly as an invitation rather than a promise 🙂
