Historic homes come with incredible architectural details, but designing interiors that complement them without feeling overtly traditional requires being super focused on creating balance 🙌🏼 will tell you that for sure.

For this Brownstone, we layered modern furniture with the home’s original architectural framework to create a space that feels both current and timeless.

Natural light, plaster moldings, and soft neutral tones allow the architecture to remain the star while the furnishings bring warmth and comfort to the space.

The custom twelve-foot sectional anchors the room, while curved chaise lounges and textural ottomans add flexibility for entertaining and everyday living.

Spaces like this are a reminder that historic architecture and modern living can CERTAINLY coexist beautifully 😃

A child’s room should feel just as intentional as the rest of the home… just softer. 🤍 🧸

In this custom colonial, we layered warm white oak, baby-friendly furntiure, sweet gingham drapery and two wallpapers to create a nursery and play spaces rooted in transitional design and .

Neutral textures, vintage-inspired rugs, and curated shelving bring depth without overwhelming the room, proving that kids’ spaces can be gorgeous and functional.

Texture is REALLY having a moment. It’s always on a designer’s mind when making selections for interiors’ furniture pieces and materials throughout a home.

But truly, the last few years has been ALL about layering a range of neutral colors side by side mixed with textures like boucles, heavy wood graining, shearling, mohair and other rich fabrics with a warm & tactile feel.

This new construction blank slate was all about using thoughtful and INTENTIONAL design practices. We brought in layers of texture, contrasting materials, and added architectural interest through custom millwork, upgraded lighting and specialty finishes. The custom grid paneling adds depth and sophistication, while the black marble fireplace surround becomes a bold focal point. Soft, neutral furnishings balance the statement lighting, creating a space that feels both modern and inviting.

Sightlines 💙
One of the first things we think about in a new space — long before we’ve talked about furniture or finishes — is what the eye lands on next.

A well-designed home isn’t just a series of beautiful rooms. It’s a series of beautiful sightlines.

From any spot in the house, you should see something intentional, such as a piece of art framed by a cased opening, a millwork detail drawing you through, a light fixture anchoring the next room, a moment of color pulling you forward.

This is where architecture and decoration stop being separate conversations. The placement of a doorway, the height of a wall opening, the alignment of a window — all of it decides what your eye lands on next. Good uses those alignments on purpose.

The kitchen has quietly become the most-used room in modern homes. Morning coffee, kids’ homework, casual dinners, the workday debrief at the end of a LONG day… life happens in out kitchens‼️ At HD, we treat every kitchen renovation as a real room to live in, not just a place to cook.
