Brilliant Purple by Tusc & Pine brings real color energy 💜

This Series II artists’ oil color spreads into a vivid purple with smooth coverage and a saturated finish.

Somewhere between a blooming orchid and the last bright color before night.

Concrete gray has more color in it than you’d think ◻️

In this Michaela Matches, she uses Tusc & Pine Oils to match the warm gray of a cinder block.

The mix starts with Permanent Yellow Light, Quinacridone Red Deep, and Cerulean Blue Pastiche to build a muddy base. From there, Michaela adjusts the value with Titanium White and uses small corrections to balance the warmer undertones with the cooler gray specks in the concrete.

Not glamorous. Very useful.

Sgraffito is one of those pastel techniques that feels a little like revealing a secret 🎨

In this clip, a lighter oil pastel layer goes down first on the pelican’s chest. Once darker color is layered over it, the top surface can be scratched back to let those light feather details show through.

High contrast underneath makes the texture pop.

Terracotta is one of those colors that looks easy until the palette gets involved 🪴

In this Michaela Matches, she uses Tusc & Pine Oils to match the warm clay color of a terracotta pot.

The mix starts with Permanent Yellow Light and Quinacridone Red Deep. Cerulean Blue Pastiche tones down the orange, then Titanium White brings the value closer.

The big lesson? Don’t just reach for black when yellow needs a shadow. That road gets green very quickly.

What should Michaela match next? 👀

We took Réflexions Deluxe Sketchbooks out for a little on-location sketching. 🎨

The 90 lb bright white paper works nicely for mixed-media sketchbook pages, so it’s easy to start loose and keep building once the view settles in.

Sometimes a short walk is enough reason to open the sketchbook.

You asked for a follow-up, so we’re back with more Jerry’s shopper behavior 🎨

Tell us if we nailed it, and let us know who we missed. We have a feeling there are a few more art store characters out there.

Live from the studio, it’s SoHo Urban Artist Black Watercolor Paper 🗽🎨

This 140 lb cold press black paper gives metallic watercolor, gouache, and ink a seriously dramatic surface to work on. The dark background makes city lights pop, subway lettering stand out, and every little shimmer feel a bit more theatrical. 🚡

Very New York. Very sketchbook-worthy.

A quick texture tip from Jerry’s LIVE Workshop #7: Mixed Media Pastels 🎨

Michaela uses pastel pencil shavings to create a fine sandy beach effect, then presses the pigment into the paper with glassine so the texture stays put.

Simple trick. Very beachy result. Are you gonna try it?

Wicker seems to be having a moment, so naturally we brought in a purse 👜🎨

Michaela matches this capybara-shaped wicker bag with Tusc & Pine Oils, starting with a warm orange before nudging it into that woven brown.

A little Cerulean Blue Pastiche tones it down, Titanium White brings the value closer, and suddenly this tiny bag is looking very… matchable.

What should Michaela match next? 👀
