Well… it’s starting to make sense now.

One piece at a time, the next build is starting to take shape. Still plenty of work left, but I think you can probably figure out where this is going now.

Any guesses?

I may have underestimated how much room 14 boards would take up.

Now the important question…

What do you think I’m building?

From imagination to reality.

This one started with a conversation, a rough sketch, and an idea for a mid-century dresser that didn’t exist yet.

After plenty of revisions, a lot of problem solving, and more hours than I’d care to count, that idea finally became furniture.

Walnut and maple. Five soft-close drawers. Integrated pulls. Built one piece at a time for one specific client.

Delivered today! And seeing their reaction made all of it worth it!

This is why I picked maple for these drawer faces.

It's pretty light and subtle before the finish goes on, and then the grain just comes alive.

Five drawer faces like this are going on the custom dresser I'm building right now. I'm really looking forward to seeing them all installed.

What do you think of this grain?

Every now and then, you have to test your work.

So… I stood on the drawer. 😅

I’m about 240 pounds, and it barely made a sound.

Safe to say it’ll have no problem holding a week’s worth of socks.

It’s little moments like this that remind me why I enjoy building custom furniture. Seeing an idea go from a few rough boards to something that’s built to last is always rewarding.

The dresser is almost finished, and I can’t wait to share the final reveal.

These might look like a few large panels right now, but they’ll eventually be cut apart and become the five drawer faces for this custom dresser.

Gluing them together first allows the grain to continue from one drawer to the next. Once everything is cut, fitted, and installed, each section should look like one continuous piece instead of separate drawer fronts.

It takes more planning now, and apparently almost every clamp I own, but it should make the finished dresser feel much more intentional.

The custom dresser is finally standing on its own.

The walnut top, face frame, and base are assembled, and the proportions are starting to match the original design.

It still needs the five drawers, solid maple drawer faces, integrated pulls, finish, and final adjustments. But, this is the first time the entire piece has come together.

Almost done. Just the details that matter most left.

One more milestone on this custom dresser build.

The face frame is finally together, and it’s exciting to see months of planning starting to take shape. Every dimension, every proportion, and every joint was designed around one goal: building a dresser that’s simple, elegant, and built to last.

Still plenty of work ahead, but it’s rewarding to see the vision becoming reality one piece at a time.

I can’t wait to share the finished piece with you all.

Face frame is coming together for the custom dresser build.

This is the part where the layout really starts to show. Two drawers on one side, three on the other, all built around the final design instead of a standard store-bought layout.

Small detail from the custom dresser build.

This walnut had a few knots that I wanted to keep, so I filled them instead of cutting them out. Little decisions like this are what make a custom piece feel different from something off the shelf.
