An important update for our EU customers 🫒
As some of you may already know, the new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) became applicable on 12 August. For us, this doesn’t affect our Belgian customers, but it does affect every other country in the EU we ship to — the regulation now requires us to appoint an authorised representative in each individual EU country to handle packaging compliance on our behalf there.
Despite our continuous efforts to bring you superior extra virgin olive oil, packed in reusable, recycled and recyclable stainless steel bottles and cans, the cost of appointing these representatives is simply too high for a small business like ours to absorb — especially since we’d need a separate one for every country we ship to. That would make selling to the rest of the EU prohibitively expensive, for us and for you.
So, we have to pause sales to customers in EU countries outside Belgium, for the time being. If you place an order before then, we’ll make sure it’s dispatched on time.
It’s still unclear how this will evolve. We’re hoping small businesses like ours will be given simplified conditions, a more affordable path to compliance, or that the rule gets revised — because as it stands, this doesn’t feel like it’s in the spirit of what a shared European market should make easier for small makers.
Thank you all for supporting Casa Astrid up to this point, and especially our customers outside Belgium — some of you have been with us for a long time, and it genuinely means a lot. This isn’t goodbye. We’re staying hopeful we’ll be able to ship across the EU again soon.
Much love and thank you, Jean-Luc 💛
