This BMW E46 330i in at AcousticAudio for a complete audio upgrade, with the focus on clean sound, good balance and strong bass without taking away from the character of the car.
For the source unit, we fitted a TT Audio Class D Apple CarPlay and Android Auto radio. A good audio system can only perform as well as the signal it receives, so having a clean, strong signal from the radio is very important. The TT Audio unit gives us a solid foundation to work from, while also adding the convenience of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for everyday use.
Up front, we fitted a BLAM Relax 130 RFC split system into the front doors. These speakers give the system a very clean and detailed front sound stage, with clear vocals, crisp highs and good midrange response without sounding harsh.
At the rear, we fitted a set of BLAM SR 165C coaxial speakers on the rear parcel shelf. These add some extra fill to the system and work very well with the front speakers, giving the whole cabin a fuller and more balanced sound.
Both the front split system and the rear coaxial speakers are powered by a BLAM Power P704 four-channel amplifier. Giving the speakers proper clean power makes a big difference, allowing them to play with much better control, clarity and detail.
For the low end, we fitted a BLAM Live L25 DB 10-inch subwoofer into a sealed enclosure that we built specifically for the installation. A properly designed sealed enclosure gives the subwoofer excellent control, producing tight, accurate bass rather than just loud, boomy bass.
The subwoofer is powered by a BLAM Power P601 amplifier, giving it the power and control it needs to perform properly.
The end result is a system that sounds clean and balanced at normal listening levels, but still has plenty of output when you turn the volume up. The front stage is clear and detailed, the rear speakers add nicely to the overall sound, and the 10-inch BLAM subwoofer gives the system strong, controlled bass without overpowering the music.
