Growing your own produce is so rewarding, and if you don’t know where to begin, start with a chilli plant as they keep going and love our Cape Town climate — no pesticides or filler powders in my simple chilli flakes!! 🥰
While I grew up on a smallholding, helping out and watching one’s parents grow things is not quite the same as being totally responsible for growing your own plants …but yes, at least I had the idea it could be done from lightly observing them.
About 7 years ago or so I slowly started some small-garden gardening in my little suburban home… there are lots of hits and misses, but one has to just start small and the lessons grow.
And I definitely know now that organic symbiotic gardening is the way : plant lots of different plants and veg close together so they can help protect each other, leave most of the “weeds”, pile on leaf-litter, and don’t forget to make your own home-made compost.. the insects come and the birds come to eat those insects, and the other insects that there shouldn’t be too many of as well 🥰 🌱 🐛 ☀️ 🌧️ 🐦
