1 of a Card

1 of a Card This started out as a hobby, store bought cards were too expensive. Cards are custom made per order.

I've been making cards for family members on and off over the last few years but decided to pursue this interest.

I don’t always get a jolt of inspiration for cards for my dad and brothers but this year seemed to be a bit different. I knew what I wanted for dad (the vinyl player) and I knew what I wanted for my middle brother, a pun and a cup of chai! Very on brand for Cape Town winters! I found the chai design on Design Space and googled some good puns. The wobbler was just the cherry on top (see the video). Thanks to for the wobbler inspo on one of her amazing cards!

I often get asked how long a card takes and the answer varies drastically. Some cards are easy and can be done immediately and then there are cards like this. I’ve had this idea for a while but had no idea how to execute. When I finally felt like I had the concept, I realised that elevator doors disappear 🫠 It look me about a week to figure out the mechanism and a solid day of prototyping the mechanism and three versions of Peppa to land on this one. This process was stressful and anxiety inducing but when everything came together I felt absolute glee! Which I’m very happy to say the recipient echoed 😮‍💨

Happiest of happy birthdays to the recipient, my youngest nephew who is entering his teens. I love our adventures and look forward to many more 🥳

Last month was my dad’s 75th birthday. I knew I had to make something special as he loved his 70th birthday card, in fact it’s framed in his office. I decided to try and make a vinyl player. The disc was supposed to rotate but I didn’t manage to solve that within the timeframe I had. I also had to figure out how to include enough space for us three siblings and their families to write a message. After scouring Pinterest I came across vinyl players with a box shape. At one of our monthly craft get togethers showed us how to make a box which made me think of slotting a drawer in that gap to store our messages. I’m grateful to all the members of ’ monthly group who offered advice on this creation! It took quite a bit of trial and error but I’m haply with the way it came out. The last picture is the aftermath 🫣

It was my niece’s birthday last month and her latest obsession is Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Avatar was my favourite show and when my nephew was down last year he got her watching so this. I’m so glad we can bond over this! She also got me to rewatch Legend of Korra.

showed us this explosion technique at our monthly craft hangout that kindly hosts. It turned out to be the perfect technique for this card and matched perfectly with the elements (earth, fire, wind and water). The front of the card is inspired by Pinterest.

Today is a double celebration, Raksha Bandhan and my mom’s birthday!

Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters and is observed among Indian communities. In our family we also tie for our brothers’ partners.

Made this card for my brother who’s in the UK. It was a bit of a process, I had this idea I was set on but it turned out terrible! So this became a happy accident. Really love ’s stamps. Turned out beautiful!

Had so much fun making this card. One of my nephews turned 12 today and absolutely loved the previous Bluey card so of course I had to make another one!

Been having a bit of hand trouble, some pesky carpel tunnel, so I was quite grateful I had this background that I didn’t land up using in a previous card. I layered the embossing with a die cut which made an interesting texture.

Supplies:
Card stock
Blending inks on background: minis (Aqua Sky, Honeysuckle, Buttercup and Sprout)
Glossy Accents on nose and eyes
Outline with Pigma Micron 003
Gold accents with Signo Broad

Happiest birthday to my niece! She had a super fun party at the cinema and she loves popcorn 🍿

So happy with how this card turned out, there was a lot of toing and froing with the background. I’ve been very lucky with this stamp set and dies, got it secondhand from someone clearing out their items and it’s worked for multiple cards.

Happy Diwali 🪔

Wishing all those who celebrate. Diwali is a time of celebrating good over evil and light over dark. The past year has felt pretty dark, so here’s to finding the glimpse of light even in the darkest of times and hoping that good will always triumph 🎇

Making this card was such a pleasure because I have Diwali stamps and dies from !!! They were fantastic in getting the items to my folks while they were India. It was a bit of a drama, especially because foreign payments are almost impossible in India! But in the end the items were delivered and made they way to South Africa 😅
