ZURI and IMANI, was selected from more than 700 applicants, as one of Création Africa’s 40 entrepreneurs, in the Creative and Cultural Industry, to take part in an intensive one month mentoring programme.

Création Africa is a groundbreaking initiative by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, coordinated by the Embassy of France and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS). It aims to boost and support entrepreneurship in the cultural and creative industries in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi.

The programme has been like being back in college and rushing for classes every day! Quickly have breakfast, get coffee, notebook and pen ready and then login for class 😁 And then later in the evening, hangout with your classmates to just talk about stuff and everything. But most importantly, the classes - from understanding the Creative Industry, Branding, Marketing, Strategy, Financial Management and being in a mentorship session with top leaders in the creative industry, has been a necessary impact and knowledge for our business growth.

Being an entrepreneur can kinda feel lonely but being in the midst of other top-notch entrepreneurs, listening to their feedback, sharing their stories, successes, and challenges in class sometimes makes me go, ‘oh you too!’ (well in my head!). It made me feel so seen!

Because, it feels good to know that the challenges I go through as a business owner, is not just exclusive to me and there is always a way and a solution to get it right.

Merci beaucoup, ! It is such an honour to be a part of the Création Africa Mentorship Programme. And to the partners and collaborators , , , , thank you, for putting together this in-depth programme.

Always wanted to create a sort of digital-illusion print resembling the aso-oke fabric that from afar looks like the aṣọ òkè hand-woven fabric.

Mock’ed up the A*o-Oke Inspired so you kinda see how it will look like when printed on fabric and used to make apparel.

Designed all the panel as a one-piece fabric print but took them panel apart to be used as complimentary pieces with each other. Came out cool I think 🥰.

Still a work in progress. So maybe will use the whole design (slide 1) as one pattern design or take several parts of the design to create individual pattern designs to act as complimentary pieces (slide 2-5). Bien, oui?

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Hit or Miss?

I'll mock it up on apparel later so you see what I mean.

- the LINES and CROSSROADS on this cotton twill base fabric looked really cool in this hand-sewn-loose-kinda-dress. Took me 2 days cutting and sewing with needle and thread 🥴

Another sample test for future collection. Like? YES/ NO???

Looked nice with a belt and without. Even rocked it with my running shoes because I choose them ASICS over normal shoes or heels - the cushiony comfort is 🥰😍😍😍

Peep selfie with Frida Kahlo 🥰
