Floating above one of Cape Town’s most historic streets. ✨

Our Etosha lights hanging in clusters at Nando’s Adderley Street create a sky of colour and light from every angle. Suspended on long cords from the soaring ceilings, they look like they are floating in the space.

Set against floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city, this project celebrates everything we love about Cape Town. Historic architecture, bustling streets, and moments of creativity tucked into unexpected places.

As the city moves below, these lights create a whimsical moment overhead, drawing your eye upward and transforming the space into something truly special.

This is a cityscape we can get behind. Thank you and Nando's South Africa.

Introducing Zingo. Meaning round in Swahili, this new design celebrates shape, texture and the many possibilities of handweaving.

At first glance, Zingo is all about the circle. Look a little closer and you will find multiple weave variations working together, including a centre point woven in our signature Tildi diamond weave. Around the outside, double-layered frame details create a three-dimensional edge that brings even more texture and depth to the piece.

Currently available in 700mm ø x 250mm h, Zingo can also be customised and made to size depending on your project.

We are already dreaming up all the different ways this one can be woven. With endless colour combinations and weave possibilities.

Now available on our website.

Located in one of South Africa’s most iconic coastal towns and basking in natural light is Nando’s Knysna, designed by Kristen Page🇿🇦.

We created a cluster of six Oralu lampshades measuring 300mm ø x 500mm h, suspended against the incredible backdrop artwork by Nando's Hot Young Designer, DZIRIBA. Woven in bespoke shades of orange, red, blue and green, we love how the colours and patterns play off one another.

Five Etosha Sika lampshades measuring 500mm ø provide accent lighting where lower ceilings called for something a little different. Their flat disc shape makes them perfect for adding colour and texture without taking up too much space, while continuing the same bespoke colour palette throughout the restaurant.

Alongside beautiful beaded lights by Mash.T and artwork from Spier Arts Trust, this project is a wonderful example of so many talented creatives coming together in one space.

Well done to everyone involved. We absolutely love how this one turned out.

A classic for a reason. Our Awali Tildi was one of the very first shapes to join the Ashanti lighting collection, woven in one of our original weave styles, the Tildi, with its signature diamond pattern. Years later, it is still finding its way into projects around the world.

Featured here at Nando’s Brookfield, UK, designed by Harrison, this particular Awali measures an impressive 1500mm in diameter. A reminder that sometimes the simplest shapes can make the biggest impact.

Some designs come and go, but this dome shape has stood the test of time. Simple, functional, and just as relevant today as when we first introduced it.

We love how bright and open this space feels, with the colours of the Awaliti adding a touch of warmth overhead.

From our workshop in Cape Town to its new home in the UK, it is always special to see one of our oldest designs continue to tell new stories.

Two years. 🧡

On 1 June 2024, Vanessa Steyn and Rob Burton took over the reins at Ashanti Design. There have been highs, challenges, lessons, wins, plenty of laughter, and more than a few moments where we wondered if there were enough hours in the day. Through it all, we have been guided by a genuine love for this business, our team, and the incredible community that surrounds it.

Over the past two years, we have pushed our creative limits, developed new weaving styles, explored new products, and produced some of the biggest and most ambitious pieces Ashanti has ever made. Looking back at the work that has come out of our workshop fills us with immense pride.

Most importantly, we have grown alongside an incredible team whose skill, dedication, and spirit make Ashanti what it is every single day.

To our clients, customers, collaborators, and supporters around the world, thank you. Thank you for trusting us, championing handmade design, and continuing to be part of this journey.

Here’s to the next chapter. We cannot wait to see where it takes us.

A new take on our Wezi lampshade for Nando’s Mahon Point in Ireland.

Originally launched as part of our standard range in 2025, we love seeing how designers continue to reinterpret this shape for different spaces and applications. For this project by , the Wezi was adapted into a wall light and woven in solid black.

A very different direction from our usual bright, multi-coloured pieces, but proof of how versatile handmade design can be. We especially love how they have been mounted against different coloured walls throughout the space. Such a clever installation.

Every piece was made by hand here in Cape Town by our welding and weaving teams before making its way all the way to Ireland.

We always get excited when a brief comes through that is not a lampshade, but rather pieces that become part of the space itself.

For Nando’s Bedford in the UK, designed by , we worked on these giant woven wall discs, each one created in a different weaving pattern and installed throughout the restaurant.

This project gave us the chance to really explore and experiment with our weaving techniques in a new way, and we absolutely loved bringing these concepts to life.

And this colour palette… the deep burgundy against the orange accents works so beautifully together and complements the woven textures perfectly.

We still cannot believe how stunning these pieces look in their new home.

A little mid month reminder from us. Our 15% off bag range is still running for the whole of May, and there is still time to find something special.

Each bag is made by hand right here in the Mother City, using our signature woven fabric. No two are ever the same, which makes each one feel personal and considered.

From the hands that make them, to the person who carries them, there is a story in every piece.

Come visit us at the Watershed and choose the one that feels right for you.
