I cant quite remember when this passionate affair began. Definitely before I entered those awkward teen years. It may have been watching my dad preparing his delicious crayfish or crab curry or christmas roast or it could have been while patiently helping and watching my mum as she cooked her favourite - and now my favourite - curries of tripe and trotters or braised herbs. It may have even been w

hile watching my teenage sister bake cakes as she babysat us and graced our roof with a few burnt ones as well! Or it could have been when my 10 year old, older brother tried his hand at sauteeing prawns in butter or making syrupy sweet vermicelli. I know I soared in high school in home economics and though I wasn't cool enough to get boys drooling, my dishes sure could! I am sure that's one of the reasons my hubby is still around! Now after many years I have come full circle and I once again hear the symphony in the frying of the onions and the headiness as I inhale the smell of aromatics and the happy release of stress as I knead a ball of dough. Watching my 14 year old trying to get his caramel sauce just right and my 6 year old help me make my mince kebabs brings untold joy at their interest in something I love. I hope that the passion I have for preparing every dish that I make is reflected in the tasting. And what I offer with this new venture of mine is a chance to share in this culinary journey with me.

A simple meal of mielie rice with dry fish chutney and boiled eggs was the only protein intake for many families working on the plantations of indenture here in South Africa. Maize had to be adapted to resemble rice that was the staple of many of the worker immigrants of colonial Natal. Make this meal in remembering them...

Fridays are pizza day. If there is time, I make pizza bases but I buy the Dr Oetker 4 pack which is super crispy. Get to load plenty of veggies onto margharita bases so I love it! This helps take care of veggie bits and bobs in the fridge at the end of the week.
Usually my pizza is topped with veggies and leftovers like curry or roast, baked beans etc. Today was yesterday's mince lasagne made with brinjal instead of pasta. As usual it disappears! Luckily I am a one slice girl🙄. This was super yummy. Definitely doing this again😋

These are made with semolina, butter, coconut, sesame seeds, cardamom, nutmeg and condensed milk.
