Townsend Architects have achieved EDGE Buildings Post-Construction Certification for our Amber Glades Senior Living project, as certified by the Green Building Council South Africa GBCSA.

EDGE (“Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies”) is a green building standard and is an international green building certification system.

Townsend Architects are certified Edge Experts and were involved in the design & construction of the 160 multi-story, upmarket assisted living units with associated amenities. Townsend Architects were tasked to obtain an Edge Rating and Green Building Status for the Residential Units of this project.

This included the specification of Building Materials, Fittings, Finishes & Equipment to achieve a 23% Energy Saving, a 36% Water Saving & 43% Saving of less Embodied Energy in Materials.

Not only does this building cut down on the pressure on the environment but it also contributes to the day-to-day operational cost savings as shown below.
