Beautiful ships bell and porthole just in.

The F. Schermbrucker was a 2,800-horsepower steam tug built in 1938 by Lobnitz & Co. on the River Clyde in Scotland for the South African Railways & Harbours Administration. Named after Colonel Friedrich Schermbrucker, who was instrumental in developing the Port of East London, the 145-foot vessel served in East London for over 40 years.Historical Highlights:1938 Delivery: Captain W. Smales commanded the tug on its 45-day voyage from England to South Africa. It battled high seas and gale-force winds in the Bay of Biscay but performed excellently.1961 Sinking: In February 1961, the vessel sustained heavy damage while maneuvering the liner City of Port Elizabeth through the East London harbor entrance in rough conditions and briefly sank.Retirement: She was successfully salvaged, later retired, and eventually broken up for scrap in 1978.For further historical reading on maritime operations during this era, you can explore the Thames Tugs database or view regional historical archives via the East London Museum.
