What is Carpet Overlocking?
Carpeting comes in standard widths and is cut to size to fit the room. If you're lucky, your room will be the width of the carpet and there will be little waste. If you're not lucky, you can end up with offcuts that would be perfect for use in high traffic areas, under your desk or anywhere else you need a length of carpet but don't want it to cover the entire floor. Carpet overlocking is the process of sewing a border around the edges of a carpet. This prevents fraying and gives the carpet a stylish look. Using a heavy-duty sewing machine called an "overlocker" (hence the name), our overlocking service uses a fabric that closely matches the predominant colour of the carpet. The overlocking goes around the entire length of carpet, giving it a neat, stylish appearance. Overlocking services do more than just make offcuts useable. They also:
The edges of carpets with overlocking can be either square or rounded. We recommend rounded edges because they do not curl up. An exception is with hallway runners on patterned carpets when rounded corners would spoil the pattern.
