Designing a lodge comes with quite a few challenges, and a lot of decisions are made long before the interiors go in.

Guests and staff all use the spaces in different ways, so there is plenty to consider. From the layout and flow to the practical details that make everyday lodge life easier.

That's why Louise likes to be involved as early as the planning and construction phase. It gives us the opportunity to think things through properly before important decisions are made.

From beginning to end, we can be part of the whole process.

We start by getting to know you, the space and how you want to use it, and we can get involved as early as the construction phase. From there come the concepts, moodboards and material choices, followed by costing, procurement, project management and finally installation.

Having one team involved throughout helps keep the original vision on track and makes the process a whole lot easier for everyone involved.

Being sisters means there’s never a shortage of conversation, ideas and opinions! From materials and colour choices to sourcing the right pieces, Kate and Louise work closely together across every project.

Ever wondered where the name ChicShak came from?

The inspiration came from a book called Shack Chic, in which a photographer documented shacks that women had decorated with colour and personality using what they had available.

Louise loved the creativity behind it, and when ChicShak was founded in 2015, the idea stayed with her. Even the pink line above our logo represents the roof of a shack.

A little bit of the story behind the name you see today.

Why do we love working on lodge interiors?

There is so much to think about. How guests will use the space, how the interiors connect with the landscape outside, what will stand up to daily lodge life, and how everything feels when you walk through the door.

And every lodge is different. Different surroundings, different guests and a different story to work with.

Seeing all of that come together in the finished lodge is always a good feeling.
