The "Veld Pond" is a gold coin that was printed in the fields by a circulating coin near Pilgrim's Rest during the Second War of Independence. Each coin has the words "Z.A.R. 1902" on the front, "One Pound" on the reverse and a serrated ridge. 986 gold coins were officially minted, each with an original value of 22 shillings.
Currently worth anywhere between R100 000 - R500 000, depending on condition.
