What a special recognition! We are so proud that three of our projects — Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Phinda Private Game Reserve, and Lolebezi Safari Lodge — have been named to the inaugural Condé Nast Traveler Triple Crown, a distinction awarded to properties that have featured on the Hot List, Gold List, and Readers’ Choice Awards.

Designing these lodges was a privilege, but we know the real work begins when the guests arrive. Congratulations to the incredible teams who continue to create the experiences that keep guests returning year after year!

Thank you to the editors at Condé Nast for this incredible accolade, and to Dook for the stunning images!

The last theme we noticed throughout Salone del Mobile.Milano in Milan was interiors that blurred the lines between art, object, and furniture.

The custom-made curved sofa at Lolebezi Safari Lodge, the playful Euphorbia chair at andBeyond Suyian Lodge — inspired by the spiky silhouettes of the Laikipia succulents — and the hand-carved marble trough basin with its lion gargoyle at Aramness Gir National Park are all pieces that feel expressive and sculptural.

That’s a wrap on luxury from us, for now...

Another theme we kept seeing throughout Milan was lighting that felt more like jewellery than function.

The glass-beaded chandelier at andBeyond Mnemba Island, created using recycled hand-blown glass baubles from the Shanga glass cooperative, the bold Kitenge and recycled-glass installation above the bar at andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge, and the sculptural vanity lighting and detailed mosquito net at Lolebezi Safari Lodge all bring softness, atmosphere, and a little drama to the spaces.

Lighting that adds atmosphere, story, and just a little drama. That’s our kind of luxury.

We’ve just come back from Salone del Mobile.Milano, and these are a few of the themes and insights reflected in some of our previous work. The first was around craftsmanship and customised artistry in interiors — something we’ve always valued in our own work.
The customised embroidered cheetah armchair by Casamento at Phinda Homestead, the Shangaan embroidery by Kaross on the ceiling panels at Ngala Tented Camp, and the basket-weave ceilings at Lolebezi are all pieces made by hand — rich in texture, story, and artistry. That’s luxury you can feel.

Fresh off receiving one of the travel industry’s highest accolades — Condé Nast Traveler's 2026 Hot List, including Best New Hotels in the Middle East and Africa — it feels fitting to share one of our favourite rooms.

At Suyian Lodge, the bed sits beneath a five-metre plaster dome, with a mosquito net recessed seamlessly into the ceiling — wrapping softly around the space.

The feeling is warm, grounded, and unfussy. A quiet mix of Samburu-inspired textiles, subtle beading, and hand-dyed linens, layered without excess.

It’s simple, but gives an immediate sense of being in Laikipia. That’s real luxury.

We’re just back from Milan, thinking about our evening, high above the city, celebrating 40 years of SAOTA (at Design Week, where the studio’s pavilion for Yardcom was a focal point), and feeling ridiculously proud of what South African design is doing on the global stage right now 🇿🇦

From OKHA Design Studio to ARRCC, this was a moment. South African icons, showing up and owning it.

Beautifully pulled together by Scape Magazine, who continue to push the conversation forward and champion SA design where it counts, it was set against the magic of Terrazza Martini. As the sun set over the Duomo, the evening turned into a sparkling Milan night. It was hard to beat.

A proper celebration — cake, sparklers, dancing — and a big reminder: South Africans have got something special.

At Sirai House, the bedroom is wrapped in layers and texture. A linen mosquito net, a patchwork cow skin rug, soft suede tiebacks, and a rustic timber four-poster bed — each carrying its own African story.

Stories within stories… that’s real luxury.
