Our First Event — The Beginning of Something Bigger

Our first Ghorbany art gathering began with a simple idea:

What happens when we stop treating art as something to be displayed, and start using it to bring people together?

Artists, designers, musicians, performers, collectors, creatives and guests from different backgrounds came together inside Ghorbany — surrounded by contemporary art, antiques, design and objects carrying stories from different times and places.

And something beautiful happened.

The gallery stopped feeling like a shop.

It became a meeting place.

People talked. They discovered new artists. Music was played. Fashion became part of the exhibition. Heritage was expressed. New introductions were made and conversations began between people who may otherwise never have met.

That is the direction of Ghorbany.

After more than three decades of dealing in Persian carpets, antiques, art and design, we have realised that perhaps the most fascinating thing to collect is not objects at all.

It is people.

Our mission is to discover talent and create connections — between emerging artists and established collectors, young creatives and experienced professionals, businesses and cultural institutions, different generations, different disciplines and different communities.

We don’t want to build another conventional gallery with walls deciding who belongs inside and who remains outside.

We want to create an open cultural network where art, design, music, fashion, heritage, business and philanthropy can meet naturally.

A place where opportunity flows rather than being controlled.

A place where established names can stand beside unknown talent.

A place where someone can arrive as a guest and leave as a collaborator.

Our first event showed us that this idea can work.

And this is only the beginning.

Art Should Do More Than Decorate a Wall.

At Ghorbany, we believe art should tell stories, discover talent and connect people.

South Africa is filled with extraordinary creative voices waiting to be seen. And businesses, hotels, institutions and collectors have an opportunity to become part of their journey.

Instead of only asking:

“What art should we buy?”

Perhaps we should ask:

“What creativity can we help bring into the world?”

Imagine our hotels, offices and public spaces becoming places where new artists are discovered, commissioned and celebrated.

Art doesn’t need to remain still.
Discover it. Commission it. Rotate it. Share it. Let it move.

At Ghorbany, we increasingly realise that our greatest collection isn’t objects.

We are especially proud to be partnering with Tears Foundation for this event. 10% of sales made on the day will be donated to Tears Foundation, and we will also be sharing more about the incredible work they do through a special talk.
