Working on historic projects along the Nile’s banks has been an experience our team won't soon forget.

The Nile is often imagined as the great river of Egypt, vast and ancient and immediately recognisable. But long before it reaches those famous banks, it begins in Uganda as something wilder and less charted, winding through papyrus wetlands and floodplains that feel a world away from the delta.

Curved corners. Vibrant colour. A little bit of mischief.

For a global corporation's first African offices, we embraced colour, creativity and a healthy dose of personality. From bold furniture pieces by Dokter and Misses to custom elements created by South African makers, the space feels energetic, welcoming and undeniably local.

A space designed for people who spend their days discovering what's next.

Which design detail catches your eye first?

In Bwindi, Uganda, we spent time with Ride 4 a Woman, an organisation creating meaningful opportunities for women affected by poverty, HIV, domestic violence, widowhood, and limited access to education.

Many of the beautiful handwoven raffia pieces and crafts used at Silverback are sourced directly from these women, creating opportunities that support both livelihoods and community resilience.

As designers, we're interested in the stories behind the objects we specify. The time shared with Ride for a Woman reminded us that the most meaningful design begins by connecting with the people of a place.

Have you ever encountered a place where design and community felt deeply connected?

‘Do you only work in remote locations?’ It’s a question we get often.

While we love designing in extraordinary landscapes, we're equally passionate about shaping spaces in South Africa's cities. From hospitality projects in Cape Town to international headquarters in Johannesburg, our work spans a wide range of sectors, scales and settings.

If you're planning a hospitality, commercial or residential project, visit our website (link in comments) to explore our work and get in touch.

Most people know Kruger Shalati for its iconic, first-of-its-kind Carriage Suites suspended above the Sabie River. Less known, perhaps, are the seven Bridge House Suites, forming the land-side accommodation adjacent to the bridge.

We designed the interiors to sit subtly within the landscape, drawing on muted greens, natural textures and custom pieces that echo the surrounding bushveld to create a luxurious sanctuary.

A quieter side of Shalati, but no less memorable.

Would you choose a suite on the bridge, or a room nestled amongst the trees?

Solid oxidised brass meets Rustenburg black granite.

It's a subtle combination, but one that reveals more the longer you look. The warm brass detailing catches the light, while the dark granite brings a sense of calm and grounding.

Designed as part of the award-winning 3 000 sqm interior project we completed for BCG Johannesburg.

Wood is one of the oldest building materials we have. We've been living with it, building from it, walking across it for thousands of years. And yet, in the right hands, it still has the capacity to surprise.

That was the animating idea behind Oggie Oak Flooring’s treetop showroom in Parkhurst. Every decision made to demonstrate what wood can do, how it holds light, how it grounds a space and how it interacts with its environment.

Thinking about a retail or showroom space? We'd love to be part of that conversation. Connect with us here: https://bit.ly/4tOn9WW.

There’s a moment during every project when a single decision changes the whole room. At Molori Private Collection, that decision was about the floor.

The owners came to us with a deep appreciation for South African art. Not art as decoration, but art as the central focus.

The solution came in the form of a collaboration with artist Jody Paulsen and Jana+Koos. A rug commissioned as a bold and entirely original work of art, but designed to be lived with, walked across and sat around.

What’s the most unexpected place you’ve seen art used? Tell us in the comments.

There is nowhere quite like the Okavango.

To be asked to design in a place like this is a privilege and a responsibility that required careful decision making and an understanding of this wild environment. What you bring in. What you leave out. What the place will allow, and what it won't.

Have you experienced the Delta? We’d love to know what stayed with you. Tell us in the comments section.
