There’s a moment during every project when a single decision changes the whole room. At Molori Private Collection, that decision was about the floor.

The owners came to us with a deep appreciation for South African art. Not art as decoration, but art as the central focus.

The solution came in the form of a collaboration with artist Jody Paulsen and Jana+Koos. A rug commissioned as a bold and entirely original work of art, but designed to be lived with, walked across and sat around.

What’s the most unexpected place you’ve seen art used? Tell us in the comments.

There is nowhere quite like the Okavango.

To be asked to design in a place like this is a privilege and a responsibility that required careful decision making and an understanding of this wild environment. What you bring in. What you leave out. What the place will allow, and what it won't.

Have you experienced the Delta? We’d love to know what stayed with you. Tell us in the comments section.

In the Anele Teme Library at Durban Girls' College, a scroll installation made in collaboration with artist Elonah O'Neal Reid sits against the stillness of the historic peppercorn window.

Douglas and Douglas rockers ground the space, holding past and present in careful balance.

A study in contrast. And in continuity.

The Grumeti Reserve doesn't ask for drama. It grabs attention.

At Singita Milele, the work is shaped by the intangible as much as the architectural brief. The sense of migration. The particular stillness of a place that exists on its own terms, long before you arrive.

This design follows the rhythm of the place.

Our project in the Masai Mara, closely developed with Jana and Koos over many months, is taking shape through conversation and instinct.

What's emerging is a more playful take on the safari camp. Still rooted in place, but willing to surprise.

This is an early look at the language. Unfinished, but already so ALIVE.
Watch this space.

Ten years on, this visual still holds.

A mural made for Charles Greig Jewellers by the inimitable Damien Grivas, built slowly in layers. A red oxide base is followed by hand-laid gold leaf. The process is unforgiving. Each sheet is fragile, and the margin for error is almost nothing.

In the foreground, a custom panelled counter formed from solid bent brass anchors the space.

Time has a way of revealing which details endure, and these do.

At Singita Milele, the landscape leads. The horizon sets the scale, and the rest follows naturally. Nothing competes. Everything responds.

Texture becomes the language here, with timber, cork and light creating quiet layers that settle into the vastness.

The best design knows when to disappear.

Kruger Shalati is known for its iconic train rooms.

On land, Bridge House offers a quieter counterpoint.

Set within the surrounding bush, the contemporary structure opens directly to the landscape.

We recently extended the outdoor dining area here, introducing much-needed shade for long lunches in the Kruger heat.

In the Masai Mara, safari doesn’t only happen on the ground.

At sunrise, hot air balloons drift silently above the plains offering a completely wild perspective on one of the world’s most iconic landscapes.

It’s a way of seeing the Mara that changes your sense of scale and distance. And it’s something we’ve been thinking about while working on a unique tented camp here: exploring a refreshing approach to the traditional safari lodge genre.

Would you take in the Mara from the air?

Workspaces should function while sparking inspiration.

Curved glass and jacaranda ceilings shape this wing of an international business, with a small collection of design pieces including Herman Miller office chairs, ARRANGE Studio lamp, Dokter and Misses server and a James Mudge Furniture Studio stool bringing warmth and balance to the space.
