It's not unusual to experience a scene like this from your breakfast table at Molori Mashuma, the luxury tented safari lodge in Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park.

Our team designed every space of this 1000 square metre lodge to keep the wilderness in full view. Saturated in pomegranate, ochre and teal, with faux thatch walls, perforated steelwork and textiles drawn from the colours of the surrounding woodland, the finishes are bold, joyful and at home in one of Africa's most extraordinary reserves.

At Singita in Tanzania, we looked to texture, craft, art and collaboration to break the scale down into moments that feel warm, considered and personal. The villa’s lounge and dining area featured here achieves this with a special, hand-woven artwork by Coral and Hive hanging on the wall.

Roller blinds are the only thing that stand between a guest and the Zimbabwean wilderness at luxury tented safari lodge, Molori Mashuma.

Set among established trees in the heart of Mana Pools National Park, the interiors take their cues directly from the landscape: Oxblood tones, ochre and the muted greens of the woodland.

Since 1954, Paraa Safari Lodge has watched decades of history move along the banks of the Victoria Nile in Uganda's Murchison Falls National Park. Designing here meant earning the right to add to the remarkable history rather than rewrite it.

This mural, developed with a local artist, Wamala Kyeyune, and located in the Paraa Safari Lodge, anchors the space in its landscape and community.

Working on historic projects along the Nile’s banks has been an experience our team won't soon forget.

The Nile is often imagined as the great river of Egypt, vast and ancient and immediately recognisable. But long before it reaches those famous banks, it begins in Uganda as something wilder and less charted, winding through papyrus wetlands and floodplains that feel a world away from the delta.

In Bwindi, Uganda, we spent time with Ride 4 a Woman, an organisation creating meaningful opportunities for women affected by poverty, HIV, domestic violence, widowhood, and limited access to education.

Many of the beautiful handwoven raffia pieces and crafts used at Silverback are sourced directly from these women, creating opportunities that support both livelihoods and community resilience.

As designers, we're interested in the stories behind the objects we specify. The time shared with Ride for a Woman reminded us that the most meaningful design begins by connecting with the people of a place.
