Today I felt so bitterly nostalgic in my art studio. The space used to be the Post Office and Butchery for the Geelkop people back in 1930 - 1960.
In 2020, we restored it. It was completely derelict. And, in that space, with such rich history, it all started.

Today it ended.

It ended because I am moving to a new space. Still on the Kalahari farm. Just a bit bigger. The new space will be open to the public. It will be open for artists. It will be open for anybody who needs a bit of peace. And for anybody who loves creating.

But, that still needs to happen. For now, for today, I just want to reminice. Goodbeye, special little studio. It has been magical...

There are workshops that you enjoy... and then there are workshops that stay with you long after you've packed up and gone home.
This week Mountain Fly Fishing was one of those.
To our incredible hosts – thank you for opening your beautiful lodge and making us feel so completely at home. Your kindness, generosity and genuine care for every guest made all the difference, Josie and Dave.
The food... pure comfort on a cold mountain day. Thank you, Colleen. Delicious home-cooked meals, good wine shared around crackling fireplaces, and the kind of conversations that only seem to happen when people slow down and simply enjoy being together.

Then there was the carving. Hours of creativity, learning, helping one another, celebrating every little breakthrough, and laughing until our sides hurt. Somehow the cold Limpopo mountain air only brought us closer together.
Thank you to every student who joined me. You made this workshop so special, and I hope you leave with not only a carved skull to be proud of, but wonderful memories and new friendships too.

💥COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN💥

I'm excited to announce that a new commission cycle is now open!

The previous commission cycle is officially complete, and every commissioned piece has now found its forever home. ✨

Every skull tells a story — and I love bringing those stories to life through detailed hand-carved bone art. Each piece is individually designed and hand-carved, inspired by the natural beauty and spirit of the animal, and created with patience, reverence, and passion.

Whether you're looking for a striking statement piece for your home, a meaningful gift, or a completely custom design inspired by your own vision, I'd love to create something truly unique for you.

🖤 Ethically sourced skulls🖤 Hand-carved, one-of-a-kind artworks🖤 Custom designs created in collaboration with you🖤 Nationwide shipping available

As each piece takes many hours to complete, commission spaces are limited and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

📩 WhatsApp 073 235 2053 to discuss your ideas or reserve your place in this new commission cycle.

Six pieces. Six months. One incredible journey.

This week I hand over the final piece of a commission that has been one of the most rewarding projects I've ever had the privilege of creating. Each artwork was designed especially for Christo Kroon's beautiful, colourful, character-filled home, and every piece became part of a larger story.

Christo, thank you for trusting me with your vision, your space, and your walls. Thank you for your enthusiasm, your support, and for allowing me the creative freedom to bring these works to life.
It has been an absolute joy watching this collection grow piece by piece and finding its place in your extraordinary home.

Wishing you and your lovely family many years of happiness, laughter, memories, and enjoyment from these artworks. May they always bring a smile, spark conversation, and remind you of the journey we shared in creating them.

With gratitude, Chanelle de Jager Carvings ❤️

Putsonderwater. A tiny, forgotten ghost town in the Kalahari.
I took a photo of what used to be the hotel and station...This old building used to be filled with life when the trains still ran.

First image is the photo....last image, my painting of it. The in-between is the phases from start to finish.

I know this is my carving page...but, what I do inbetween carving and planning workshops, also deserves to be seen. It comes out of the same studio after all.

I also know I am no Van Gogh...but I don't care. Painting relaxes me and brings me so much joy!
