On Saturday, 1 August, at 09:30 for 10:00, we welcome Arnelia Fynbos Wholesale Nursery from Hopefield (National known for fantastic Fynbos plants) here at Klipheuwel Nursery.

If you, like me, love fynbos - Proteas, Pincushions, Erica’s and all the other beautiful plants that make the Western Cape so special—then this event is for you!

Come and learn from the Growers themself how to:
🌿 Preparing your soil
🌿 The correct way to plant fynbos
🌿 Care and maintenance
🌿 Tips for creating a successful fynbos garden for the future.

Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to establish your own beautiful, healthy fynbos garden.

Your Houseplants during winter

Houseplants need special care during winter because colder temperatures and shorter days can affect their growth.

Very important - Most plants require less water during this season, so avoid overwatering by checking the soil before watering.

Place plants near bright windows to help them get enough sunlight, and keep them away from cold drafts or heaters.

Indoor heating can dry the air, so increasing humidity with a humidifier or water tray can help keep plants healthy.

With this few simple adjustments, houseplants can thrive throughout winter.

Here are some houseplants that do especially well during the cool, wet winters of the Western Cape, particularly in indoor environments with mild temperatures and indirect light:

* Spekboom — A hardy South African succulent that thrives with minimal watering and bright light. Perfect for dry indoor winter conditions. (seasonal)

* ZZ Plant — Excellent for low-light homes and very forgiving during winter dormancy.

* Spider Plant — Easy to grow, adaptable, and ideal for bright indoor spaces.

* Snake Plant — Extremely resilient and tolerant of cooler indoor temperatures and low watering.

* Clivia — A beautiful indigenous plant that flowers in late winter and prefers indirect light. (seasonal)

* Peace Lily — Thrives indoors during winter if kept slightly humid and away from drafts.

* Monstera — Popular in Cape Town homes because it adapts well to filtered indoor light.

* Cape Primrose — A lovely flowering plant that enjoys cool bright windowsills in winter.

These plants are well suited to the Western Cape’s Mediterranean climate, where winters are cooler and wetter but rarely extremely cold
