One horn down… and now the second one is finally finished.

I love watching this drawing slowly come together, one little detail at a time. The horns have been quite a journey already. Getting all those curves, textures and shadows just right takes time, but it’s so worth it when it starts to come alive.

And now… the horns are done. ✨

Next up, I’m moving onto the skull.

This is where I’m really going to start bringing the character of this blue wildebeest to life.

I started with the first horn.

There’s something about drawing horns that I really enjoy. They look simple from a distance, but once you start working on them, you realise just how much is happening in those curves, ridges and little changes in texture.

So this is where the Blue Wildebeest begins.

For this reel, I’m working my way through the first horn, building it up slowly with graphite. Trying to capture the roughness and character that makes a wildebeest horn what it is.

The other horn is still just a few faint lines on the paper… but it won't stay that way for long. 😉

This is only the beginning.

There’s something about a Blue Wildebeest that always makes me stop and look twice.

They’re not the obvious choice when you think of Africa. They’re rough around the edges, a little awkward, and somehow incredibly striking at the same time. But that’s exactly what I love about them.

So, I picked up my pencil and started with a blank page.

No idea yet how this one will turn out, just the first few lines and that familiar feeling of “okay… here we go.” ✏️

The final reveal. 🖤

After all those little details, layers of graphite and many, many hours… the kudu skull is finally finished.

This one has been such a journey to draw. From the first lines to the final shadows, watching it slowly come to life has been incredibly rewarding.

And now he’s ready to join the Skull Collection in my online shop, alongside the Rooibok. 🦌

Almost there…

The kudu is nearly finished, and after all those hours of drawing, I can finally see the end in sight.

Just a few final details to go before he’s ready to leave the sketch table and make his way into the Skull Collection. 🦌✏️

I’m honestly so excited to show you the finished piece.

Over 60% done… and this kudu skull is slowly coming to life.

There’s something incredibly special about drawing African wildlife. Slowing down, noticing the details, and capturing a little piece of the wild by hand.

And today, I’m drawing to the sound of a legend. 🤍

A little nod to Dolly Parton, whose music has been part of so many lives. “9 to 5” felt like the perfect soundtrack for a day spent working away in the studio. 🕊️

This one is still in progress, but we’re getting closer to the final reveal.

And now the part I love most begins, bringing the skull to life.

There’s something incredibly special about drawing wildlife this way. You start with a blank page, and slowly, through layers of graphite, texture and detail, an animal begins to emerge.

This one still has a few more days of work ahead… but I can already see him coming together.

I can't wait to show you the finished piece. ✏️🌿

The second horn is finally finished. 🦌✏️

And just like that, both horns are done.

This part of the drawing has taken patience, detail and a lot of tiny marks, but seeing the two horns come together makes it all worth it.

Now comes the next part and the next reel…

The skull.

There’s something special about watching a drawing slowly come to life. 🤎

The first horn is almost finished, and now I’m starting on the second.

Just graphite, patience, and a little bit of South African wildlife finding its way onto paper. 🦌✏️

I love these quiet moments in the drawing process, before the finished piece is revealed.

The first horn is finally starting to come together. ✏️

This is probably one of my favourite parts of drawing a skull, getting those beautiful twists and curves of the horn right.

It’s still early days, but you can slowly start to see where this drawing is going.
