A little bit of colour on those wings!

I’ve started working on the bumblebee’s wing, laying down some white pastel first before bringing in touches of yellow, blue and a hint of purple. The colours are subtle, but they help give the wing a little more depth and life. 💛💙💜

It’s always interesting working on the smaller details and seeing how the colours come together on the paper.

Now tell me… would you have guessed there was a little purple in a bumblebee’s wing?

🐝 Yellow, black and a whole lot of fluff!

I’ve moved on to the bumblebee’s body, adding those bold colours and starting to build up the fuzzy little details with my pastels.

It’s been fun to switch things up with something a little softer and brighter.

Now, I’m curious… would you hang a bumblebee drawing in your home, or are you more of a wildlife art person?

🐝 A little bee is starting to take shape!

I'm still in the early stages of this drawing, slowly adding the first colours and details with my CarbOthello pastel pencils.

I'm working on .southafrica Pastelmat, which is a lovely surface for working with pastel. Its textured surface helps hold the pastel and allows me to build up the colours as the drawing develops.

There's still a long way to go, but I'm enjoying this little change of pace from my wildlife skull drawings.

I'll share more as this little bee comes to life!

Time for something a little different… 🐝🌼

After spending so much time drawing wildlife skulls, I thought it was time to add a little fluff, a little colour, and add a little buzz to my Instagram!

I'm starting a new bumblebee drawing in pastel, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this little fellow turns out.

There’s something special about slowing down and noticing these little creatures that are so easy to overlook. 💛

We’re getting so close now… ✏️

The Oryx skull is about 95% finished, and I honestly can’t believe how close I am to finishing this one.

There are only a few little details left, but it’s so exciting seeing the whole drawing come together.

When you first saw the horns, did you have any idea where this drawing was going? 👀

We’re getting very close with this one… ✏️

I’m still working away at the skull, adding all those little details and shadows that slowly bring the Oryx together.

It’s funny how a drawing can look so unfinished for so long, and then suddenly you start adding those final details and everything begins to make sense.

This is the last progress reel before the finished Oryx goes up on Tuesday.

And now we’re finally getting to the skull… ✏️

With both horns started, it was time to move onto the part I’ve been looking forward to, the skull itself.

I’ve been slowly working my way through all the little details, and in this reel I’m about halfway there. It’s amazing how much of a difference those little bits of shading and texture make once they start coming together.

There’s still quite a bit to do, but I’m really enjoying watching this Oryx come to life on the page. 🖤

Halfway through the skull… and there’s still plenty more graphite to go.

And now we’re onto the second horn… ✏️

The first horn is coming along nicely, so it was time to move over to the other side and start building this one up too.

I think the horns are probably one of my favourite parts of drawing an Oryx. All those little ridges take quite a bit of time, but once they start coming together, you can really see the character of the animal appearing on the page.

Still a long way to go with this one, but I’m enjoying every little bit of it. 🖤
