After dark, a street either invites you in or tells you to keep walking.
Light shapes more than we think. It decides whether a route feels walkable or one to avoid, and has the power to create a space where people choose to gather and spend time in.
That’s why we’ve partnered with to use light as a placemaking tool. The goal isn’t only brighter streets. It’s to create a city where everyone feels safe and welcome, where people stop, gather, and enjoy the spaces they share.
Our Plug-In Festoon Bulb String Lights have been lighting up the Cape Town C*D. What started on Church Lane, Shortmarket, Bree, Long and St George’s Mall has, since this video was filmed, grown to include Burg Street, Hout Street, lower Shortmarket and Hans Strijdom.
When the Mission asked people on the street, every pedestrian surveyed said it felt safer, and some were walking those routes at night for the first time. In their words, “the lights invite you.” 💡
If you’re in Cape Town, come and experience the difference lighting makes for yourself. On First Thursday, 5 November 2026, join at the Old Town House on Greenmarket Square for a free concert with Zolani Mahola, with food trucks, a night market and the kind of evening that stretches on.
Here’s to lighting one street at a time and creating Better, Brighter Moments ✨
