In Feb I was contacted for glass work on a very big restoration project in Paarl. There was rebuilds required of very old leaded windows and also a requirement for new stained glass windows in the restaurant.
Well, have you ever prayed over a project from concept to install? I did.
Firstly the colors were a challenge, that I resolved by using different types of glass and different textures, just praying that it would work. On top of it, a deadline that was really tight.
2 Windows, each 2.3m high and 1.6m wide with 4 panels.
The design required has a lot of vertical lines, which means it is always handled between 2 boards. The first time I could see if the design and selection of glass worked was on installation day.
Jacques Claassens is a putty master and he spent a full week helping doing putty work. Also helping with handling the panels between the boards as it required 2 people.
Installation took us 1,5 days on a crazy busy site manoeuvring between builders, painters, pavers, interior decorators and potential staff. It was total madness. Thank you to my Lion's club friend Charl who assisted us with the installation of the big panels.
Stained glass leaded projects are hard work, but so rewarding. When it was all done I felt a sense of proudness, but mostly I was overwhelmed being thankful at how well it all went and how beautiful the result is. All I could say was 'thank you Lord'
