Noel Hunt Artist

Noel Hunt Artist Noel Hunt was born in 1935. He is a South African artist located in Napier, who has lived in multiple countries across Africa.

He takes inspiration from authentic indigenous tribes. He works with pencil, charcoal, and watercolour. Noel Hunt’s passion for Tribal Art is inspired by his business travels into Central and East Africa. Between 1955 and 1969, he was a designer/technician working on projects such as Kariba Dam. During those years, most parts of Africa had not as yet been westernized. Each tribe retained its uniqu

e cultural heritage and folk-lore. In 1980, Hunt studied Sculpture with the Ruth Prowse Art School. This was the catalyst which reignited his passion to portray these tribes, whom he had encountered during his Out of Africa sojourn. Prior to the Covid epidemic, his work had sold in Cape galleries, as well as to private commissions, especially to overseas tourists. Although Hunt works in different mediums such as watercolour, graphite and pen, his preference is for pencil,
which allows him to capture in fine detail, the innate characteristics of these peoples. A selection of Noel Hunt’s artwork can be viewed on his Facebook profile.
