I am a full time studio wood-turner and maker in wood. I hand carve sculptural and functional vessels using salvaged timber.
My EarthStar luminaires are a marriage of naturally sculpted driftwood and LED technology.

I have always worked closely with nature. The first half of my working life was spent running lodges in various remote wilderness areas of Southern and East Africa.
Now, as a full-time woodturner and carpenter, I retain a connection to nature through my passion for my material.
My sculptural vessels, bowls and hollow forms are created using a traditional lathe and gouges combined with contemporary carving techniques.
I work almost exclusively with green wood, allowing the drying process to give the bowl or vessel its final form. The organic nature of this process sometimes results in shapes and surface textures impossible to create with tools alone. Surface embellishments such as the Japanese scorching technique Yakisugi add to the texture of the vessels.
All the timber used to make my vessels is sustainably sourced, often as part of an alien eradication program.
My EarthStar driftwood and LED light installations have found homes in lodges across southern Africa.
