Shuttleworth Weaving started in the 1980s.
Andy Shuttleworth remembers, "we got the hell in with formal employment. I was especially tired of wearing a safari suit. We decided to buy somewhere to live that was far enough away from town that we couldn’t commute”. That’s how they landed up in Fort Nottingham living in a caravan beneath the forest and earning their isiZulu name ‘amathendweni’- the tent people.
Helen and Andy quickly earned a reputation for exceptional quality handwoven cushions and carpets, never wavering from their intention to create original craft from the best materials available. Today, internationally renowned Shuttleworth Weaving epitomises the spirit of true craftmanship, voluntary simplicity, authenticity and ethical living.
